Over all it was a wonderful experience. The few glitches we encountered were resolved for the most part. We really enjoyed the ship. Couldn't have had better service and food. We did have the add on of 3 nights in Paris. The city tour was good. Spend a lot of time in Notre Dame, which was good. Would have liked to go through Montmartre, though. Would have liked a photo stop in front of the Louvre and Arch d'triumph.
Embarkation
5 out of 5
The train ride and boarding went without a hitch. Viking people were there to take care of everything.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
5 out of 5
The food was fantastic. Also the service in the dining room.
Onboard Activities
3 out of 5
There weren't many onboard activities. the cruise director was really good and put on some short shows that we really enjoyed, like a juggling act and the French lesson. They had a silk screening demonstration which wasn't much and was designed to sell very expensive scarves.
Entertainment
Because there wasn't much of it.
Children's Programs
no children
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
This couldn't have been better. The waiters in the dining room were especially good...very attentive. The only problem was that our travelling companions were supposed to get a celebration of their aniversary, which the staff forgot. When they were reminded on the next to last night, they still forgot the last night.
Ship Quality
5 out of 5
They really kept everything clean.
Cabin / Stateroom
4 out of 5
The cabin was adequate. There was only about 18 inches of floor space around the bed, which was hard to navigate sometimes. The bathroom had enough room, There was plenty of storage space. I know on these ships space is cramped because of the limitations of the width of the ships.
The city tour was ok. I loved the old town and would have like to spend more time there. because of our walking problems, we always tried to take the tour bus back to the ship rather than trying to find our own way. The beaujoulais excursion was really good. Our guild was very knowledgeable and made the trip a lot of fun. Had plenty of time to explore everything.
We were on the gentle tour. They really paid attention to walking problems. The city was really interesting. We did have a little time to explore the market place, but not much. Martine, our guide, was the same one we had in Lyon. She was very good and know her Roman history very well.
Went on a train ride for the excursion. It was ok. Not a whole lot to see, except mountainous territory. Only had time at the top for a quick bathroom break, but there wasn't much to see anyway. It was nice to do something different, and we needed a break from walking through towns.
Cooking class excursion was mediocre. They made a bread and some cream puffs. I had expected a dish of some kind with a sauce or something. The lunch was mediocre. Appetizer and dessert were ok, but the main dish was broiled cod, which was very undercooked and had an off taste. Very few people ate it. The visits to shops and walk around the city were good. The tour of Arles was interesting with the Roman ruins, but we had expected more about VanGogh. We would have liked to explore on our own, but there was too much walking to get back to the bus
Everything went smoothly after we finally got boarding passes. We had had a problem at Dulles that took over an hour to resolve. They claimed there was something wrong with our reservations, and it took 6 people to get it straightened out. The night before we left we tried to get boarding passes, and couldn't check in on like again. We contacted the hotel manager on the ship and after about 45 minutes of working on it, he finally got the passes. He gets really high marks. The Viking people were very attentive and got us to the airport in plenty of time for our flight.
