Review summary

This was our first Viking river cruise. We were not disappointed. We learned so much about the Netherlands and the culture. We got to experience going through a number of locks during the cruise, and that was very interesting. The food was excellent. It was fun sampling foods from the region at each dinner. The Viking staff was great and very attentive to our needs. We met so many great people on the ship. We are looking forward to doing another Viking cruise, perhaps an ocean cruise next time.

We chose to visit Amsterdam for two days prior to the beginning of the cruise. We were not given specific information about the location of the ship, so that was quite an ordeal trying to locate it. I had to call Viking and get an address and then ask local business owners where the address was. Once on board, everything went smoothly.

The piano player on board was very good. One night there was a violinist and an accordion player who did a show and that was excellent.

The cabin was very nice. We love tapping the balcony. Our stewardess was excellent…. She kept our room neat and clean.

Ship tip

If you are not flying Viking air on embarkation day, then you will need to be sure you know where the ship will be located for embarkation. This will require you to make a phone call to Viking.

Because we had Viking air accommodations for the return trip, everything went smoothly. The only problem was getting picked up on the ship as the van that was sent for us got a flat tire. A second van had to be ordered and that took a while for us to get to the airport.
