Review summary

The weather was good, mostly mid-50s and overcast. The region does experience fog in the morning in November. The food and wine were very good on this ship, better than the Rhine cruise. We spent four nights in Bordeaux, which was excellent because there was so much to do. We had a delightful dinner at Chateau Kirwan. The evening was the highlight. We purchased wine from our last stop in Sauternes, as it had first-class growth wines that were worth the price of shipping home.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
Everyday this cruise offered a delicious regional specialty menu in the main dining room. The bountiful buffet breakfast was supplemented with a la carte orders from the kitchen. No specialty restaurant on this ship but the itinerary offered a terrific banquet dinner at Chateau Kirwan with flowing wine.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
There were a few daytime onboard entertainment for those who did not go on the excursions. The evening entertainment was light and enjoyable.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
All of the staff were well-trained and friendly to us and to two other couples that were traveling with us. The room stewards were terrific.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
The Viking Longship is a clean and Scando-mininalist design that is easy on the eyes.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
The extra room for walking and a chair in the balcony room was worth the up-charge. The bathroom is small, but the shower was very good. The ship did not move at night and my bed was comfortable, so I slept well.

Ship tip

Reserve a balcony room on the top floor (300 level) starboard side, not the 200 level as the ship docked on this side of the Quai and river's tide dropped the ship below the promenade leaving no view or sun making the balcony useless. Book your room on any level on the port side of the Foreseti for daily views of the river no matter the tide.

We did not sail to Cadillac due to high water, however we took a coach to the town and enjoyed the market and the Sauterne winery. Staying an extra night in Bordeaux was great!

Disembarkation

Very organized getting passengers off the ship and on their way.
