Relaxing few days away. Much cheaper than flying and finding a hotel room.
Embarkation
5 out of 5
Dropped luggage off, went through check in & security and within 15 mins we were onboard.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
4 out of 5
We didn't use the main dining rooms due to doing alot of sightseeing especially as there was an overnight stay in Amsterdam.
The buffet had plenty of variety and the food was freshly cooked and pleasantly displayed. Most dietary needs catered for although lactose free options could be improved
It was easy to find somewhere to sit in the buffet area itself or on lido deck
We had a beefburgers and fries from the grill which was lovely as it was cooked to order. The bun and salad were very fresh.
My only complaint is that the dishes in the buffet could have been hotter as some were cold by the time we served ourselves and sat down.
Drinks were reasonably priced (restaurant prices) and it was easy to get served.
Onboard Activities
2 out of 5
The usual table tennis and deck quoits etc.
Entertainment
4 out of 5
The theatre shows are just rolling repeats of ones we watched 10 years ago.
The cinema had films that we watched on the Iona last year.
There was no live music on lido deck during the cruise just piped. The concert pianist played daily along with the busker and resident band Pulse. However, the performances didn't tend to start until 19.45 pm by which time, we were having dinner.
There was a silent disco and a comedian available but we didn't bother with these.
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
All the staff were very friendly & helpful and appeared to enjoy working on the ship.
Ship Quality
3 out of 5
The ship was clean but looked a bit grimy in places due to age plus rust was coming through the iron work as it had been painted over rather than being taken down to the base metal then painted. It's in desperate need of a refit.
Cabin / Stateroom
4 out of 5
Our cabin was a decent size but the interior chairs had teeth marks all over the wood trim, the carpet was badly frayed and gaffer tape was holding it together in places. The toilet completely stopped working. The maintenance team fixed it quickly though on each occasion but couldn't stop the awful screeching sound the push button made.
Our steward was lovely and went out of his way to get me some lactose free milk. He also advised the complimentary water and chocolates stopped last month although biscuits would be replenished every morning.
Disembarkation
5 out of 5
We self disembarked at 06.30 am, were at our car in the CPS car park within 5 minutes and home by 9.30 am.
