Review summary

My daughter and I cruised on the Veendam to Bermuda in early July 2010. It was a perfect get-away and a wonderful cruising experience, her first but a repeater for me! First of all the Veendam has been fully refurbished, with new furniture in our stateroom, a Deluxe Veranda, and all throughout the public spaces such as Dining Room, the Showroom at Sea, bars, casinos, Explorateurs Cafe, etc. The appointment of these public spaces is spectacular with beautiful colours, very modern games tables, and outstanding decoration - what a treat to see the Veendam modernized in such a tasteful manner! As usual our HAL assigned personel were courteous, most serviable and very professional, both for our stateroom and in the Dining Room. Bermuda was also a great experience: the opportunity for the Ship to dock right on Front Street in Hamilton is priceless, and offers unlimited chances to visit Hamilton and the surroundings without hurdles. The ship also laid anchor outside of St-George, and although the Bermudian ferry service was not the most convenient, the visit of St-George and the surroundings was very worthwhile. All in all, a most pleasant summer cruise on a beautiful ship to a lovely island, Bermuda.

The Veendam has the right size, at approximately 1200 passengers, to allow for great and personalized service, both in staterooms and in public spaces. Its recent refurbishing is very luxurious and eye pleasing!

Cabin / Stateroom

Choosing a Veranda stateroom offered us the luxury of private time spent outside, and opens up the stateroom making it appear larger and more spacious.

Ports of call

Hamilton, Bermuda

The Shops on Front Street and Reid Street are well worth more than one visit, with exquisite and well priced merchandises. Definitely, a trip to Horseshoe Bay Beach is a must to sample the exquisite beaches of the island; it is also closer to Hamilton than Clearwater Beach.

St. George's, Bermuda

The Somers garden is a must-see: not only it transports you to a time in the past when english type gardens were appreciated, but speciment plants and trees are named and marked with explanations for gardeners' curiousity.

Pros: The wonderfully refurbished Veendam and the dream destination of Bermuda

Cons: The Retreat pool
