Review summary
The Alaska coast is very beautiful, and seeing it on a ship is the best! The Veendam captain was very aware of when we were near scenic high points, and he always stopped the ship so we could really get a good look and hear about them. The staff cater to you on almost everything. I said that the long lines in the Lido were a con, but at breakfast we always got room service - they brought us anything we requested.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
5 out of 5
The ice cream on the Lido all afternoon was my favorite thing. We could eat all the time, it seemed, with food on the Lido, teas, etc. The dining room steward was the best, and he would arrange special things for my sister. The baked Alaska parade was great to see, but it's really not a very good dessert because it has to be made in advance for so many people, I guess.
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
These are the nicest people I've ever met. Even though they're working their tails off, they always have time for a pleasant greeting or an offer of help if you seem lost. Out Rotterdam steward was always going out of his way to make things special for my sister, and he always remembered our favorite things. Our cabin steward was an invisible magician; we especially liked the towel animals.
Ship Quality

I loved exploring the ship - it has lots of seemingly hidden spaces. Many times, I would find myself alone or with only a couple of other people on prime deck space for viewing even though there were so many people on board. The ship is kept spotless, but that's because there's an army of hardworking people behind the scenes.
Cabin / Stateroom

I really liked my room because it was so large and the view was unobstructed. I wish we had a balcony, but there weren't any cabins like that available when we made our reservations. Next time....
I really liked the helicopter trip to the glaciers. We got to see a whole lot because our flight lasted 50 minutes with a 20 minute stop. The pilot never seemed to be in a hurry. Otherwise, I didn't like Juneau that much.
