Review summary
A long 46 day cruise, excellent time on board with good weather, a good itinerary, spoilt only by the onset of COVID-19 which meant we had to miss a couple of ports. Sadly. Princess do not do this cruise annually.
There were a lot of sea days but we were able to keep ourselves amused. Disappointed though with lack of Dance/Vocal shows and the standard of stand alone entertainers seems to have dropped
Embarkation
4 out of 5
Very quick and well organised
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
4 out of 5
Some days better than others, it was a long cruise so a repetitive menu in the MDR, but there was always a good selection in Horizon Court
Onboard Activities
3 out of 5
Trivia was done by the same person most days, which meant it got rather stale and not helped by his arrogance
Entertainment
4 out of 5
Not many shows despite it being a long cruise.
Some of the singers and comedians were second rate. The resident duo that played in the Wheelhouse, Crooners and Atrium comprised of a Lady singer and keyboard player I think, but they were no better than some of the Karaoke singers
Children's Programs
No children
Service and Staff
4 out of 5
On the whole the staff were friendly, as always some more than others. Our room steward was just OK
Ship Quality
4 out of 5
We like the layout and size of this ship. It is easy to get around and there always seemed to be somewhere to sit
Cabin / Stateroom
4 out of 5
Small but functional, its close proximity to the International Cafe meant that we did not use it during the day
Ship tip
Don't expect 5 star, but its a good clean friendly ship
The local authorities would not let us anchor and tender as we had been in Phuket 13 days earlier and they decided that we should have had 14 clear days, despite them having all the information for 28 days.
Took the shuttle to an out of town shopping area. we were able from here able to catch a local bus that took in 3 different routes to get an overview of the city. No hop on off bus here.
At first the locals would not let us exit the ports gate after getting off the ship. They stoned some of the crew. After the local Police used tear gas to disperse them the Captain made a decision to allow us to take a free shuttle to a local beachside resort without incident. The person at Princess who decides where ships go is in the wrong job as they should be aware that everything closes on a Sunday on this Island, therefore there is nothing to do or see
