Review summary

The Statendam had been refurbished and everything was in excellent condition. The staterooms on the Holland American line are much larger than other cruise ships and it was for this reason we chose this line a second time. The dining choices were wonderful and service was excellent in all areas of the ship. This was a smaller ship than we had sailed on before but all the amenities were equivalent to the larger vessel. Overall we were happy with the cruise except for the disappointing weather in Alaska. Perhaps mid August is not the ideal time for this cruise.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

Would have liked more options on the Master Chefs dinner. We had the same options on the Lido Buffet but could build the meal with the vegetables, etc of our choice.

Service and Staff

Desk was not helpful in changing our dining time for one day even though usually there was plenty of space available every day in the dining room. With that exception the rest of the staff were excellent.

Shopping here was excellent and we would have taken the tram to the top of the mountain if it had not been so foggy.

Ketchikan, Alaska

This was a very interesting port and we ate the Halibut at a dockside fish and chips stand that was excellent.

Pros: Glacier Bay National Park

Cons: Weather was rainy and foggy most days
