Do NOT use Princess Cruise line! by CrusingSenior

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Star Princess / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

We sailed on the 6/16/2019 - 6/23/2019 Alaskan cruise on the Star Princess and it was one of the most horrible cruising experiences we had encountered.  We wanted to celebrate our anniversary and my son’s honeymoon on your Princess Cruise and booked three cabins.  We booked an Alaskan cruise specifically to see the glaciers and to visit BC Canada.   First of all, we were up and on the deck at 5am (per the itinerary) so that we could see the glaciers while passing through Tracy Arm.  After about a half an hour to an hour later we were told that we would not be able to pass through Tracy Arm and that we were going to Endicott instead.  As for attempting to see glaciers at Endicott we were told that if we looked through binoculars we could see the tip of a glacier.  Needless to say we did not get to see any glaciers on this cruise. During the cruise, our toilets backed up twice.  The first time it occurred we waited until the morning and they were able to clear it by flushing the line.  According to some other cruise passengers they also had the same problem.  The next day the same problem occurred and a maintenance worker was sent to our cabin and again had to flush the main line.  My son’s and daughter’s cabins experienced the same toilet issues as did the other passengers along our corridor. Also, during the cruise there was a leak in the ceiling of my daughter’s cabin which occurred around 4:30 am which caused them to wake up to a wet bed and blankets.  Given the multiple situations we had with the toilets we were understandably concerned that it might have been associated with the sewer line issue but was assured that it was not a sewer line leak but was a ventilation leak.   Because my husband and I were celebrating our anniversary we received two gift cards in our mail slot outside our cabin door.  One was for $25 to spend in the princess shops and one was for $50 towards a spa treatment on port days.  While we were unable to use the spa gift card we did use the $25 gift card at your Vines Novelties gift shop.  The salesclerk said that he needed to keep the gift card so that our stateroom account could be credited and stapled the gift card to his copy of the receipt.  At the end of our cruise we noticed that the gift card was not credited to our stateroom so I called the customer service desk and told them the problem.  They told me that they did not have any record of any gift card but that they do show the charges made at the Vines Novelties shop.  They asked me if I had the gift card and I informed them that the salesclerk said that he needed to submit it so that our stateroom could be credited and that he had the gift card.  They told me that because they do not reflect anything in their system they are unable to credit it.  The gift cards actually had our names printed on it our cabin number and “Congratulations”. As if all of the above was not enough to make this a terrible cruise, as we approached BC Canada we were informed that we would not be porting in BC Canada and would just anchor in place! So during this Alaskan cruise with Princess we were not able to see any glaciers (Albeit if we looked through a pair of binoculars we may be able to see the tip of one); the toilets backed up twice; there was a ceiling leak in my daughter’s room; we were provided a gift certificate which was ultimately not honored; and we were not able to port in BC Canada!  Basically, the two main ports (attractions) associated with this cruise which were also the two main reasons for choosing this cruise were not provided for along with the other substantial frustrations mentioned above. I contacted Princess Cruise lines on 6/28/2019 regarding this horrible experience. They informed me that they will research the matter and a customer service representative would contact me soon. We finally heard back from a customer service representative from Princess Cruise line and she said that not docking at the ports is something covered in our contract. Leaking toilets I guess are also common for their ships as well. I guess this is indicative of the type of service you can expect from Princess Cruises! My family loves cruises but we will be choosing a different cruise line for our future cruises!

The star princess was very... by rocruise

Sail date: /
Ship: Star Princess

The star princess was very nice and offered many good features. It was a simple ship which was nice and easy to find everything. The staff was very nice and very helpful, especially cruise director Gary, who was super kind. There was a good amount of activities for all ages to enjoy. The putt putt golf and basketball courts were small and seemed kind of forgotten on this ship but were still functional. Overall, really enjoyed this ship and everything about this cruise!

Delightful Alaskan Cruise by tunafishcan

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Star Princess / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

The ship was completely full but you would never know it! Limited shopping on board. Sit down dining. We often didn't like their entree offerings. One evening, I had to send the pasta back because it was under cooked. Very nice ambiance. Dining service - amazing! Entertainment 4.5 stars. Cruise director was high energy and very funny. Not enough lighthearted, fun entertainment especially in the evenings -we wanted to laugh more. Comedian was great! Destinations - Alaska is very beautiful. But after a few days the terrain is all the same when viewing from the ship. The excursions were overpriced which kept us away from seeing some of the sites. Glaciers were amazing. It rained at Ketchikan all day so it limited our time there. The train trip at Skagway is a must to experience some wonderful views. We couldn't dock at Victoria because winds were too high. Victoria is a bust anyway because you only get 4 hours there in the evening. Internet - they charge by the minute rather than by the day. It was VERY overpriced. My wife had to work while cruising and internet cost was over $300 - unacceptable! Salon - we did the couples massage. The massage was great but they spoiled the experience by pushing us to buy on board products and other services. My wife had her hair colored and the technician did a poor job and my wife was very upset. They didn't offer any restitution other than they reduced the price. Debarkation - they arranged for FREE our checked baggage to leave the ship and go directly to the airline. They also printed out our boarding passes and had them delivered to the room. Overall - great experience but not as glamorous a trip as one might expect. We wouldn't do this excursion again.

We had a good time. by lynnarnerich

We have been on the Star Princess before. Different room type and location. This trip I had a little more trouble remembering where things were, front or back of the ship, etc. We did hear someone else comment that the carpet on the hall floors in the cabin areas had different color circles, red or green, depending on the side of the ship you are on. Take note of this. It really helped us turn to the correct side of the ship when getting of the elevator.

Beautiful scenery but no good eats. by kellymet1cell

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Star Princess / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

We had a wonderful trip and will probably do this same trip again. We loved it so much, but we will probably pick a different cruise line. After visiting with other people on different cruises, we were very jealous of their food experience. One of the highlights of a cruise is the food and the opportunity to try different types of food. The Star Princess did not deliver in this area. I can only name one dish that really blew me away and that was the Grana Padano Fondue soup at Sabatinis. The rest of the food on the ship was not up to standard like we are used to. Very bland and most of the time just warm. I don't think I had any hot food.

Family cruise to Alaska by SnarkyGranny

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Star Princess / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

Of all our cruising experiences, this was our least favorite. The ship's amenities and excursions were below par and the cabins were small and outdated. The crew, however, was so friendly, efficient and hard-working that we hope Princess Cruise line appreciates that they are their biggest asset. If you get the opportunity to attend a Chef's Table on any carrier, take it!

Amazing Alaskan Cruise by Katmiller22

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Star Princess / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

My sister and I cruised on the Star Princess the first week of June 2019. The sights from our balcony were amazing and I advise anybody going on an Alaskan cruise to definitely get a balcony stateroom. We were impressed with the staff and the cleanliness of the ship. We were not impressed with the food which was bland and mediocre. The food quality might be a deal breaker for me as far as booking another cruise with Princess.

This was our first cruise with Princess and first time in Alaska. We really loved Alaska, and for the most part Princess was great. There were a few things they could improve but overall it was a great cruise.

Better than expected by JCSJCML

Ship: Star Princess / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

It was very beautiful up there. I spent a lot of time on my balcony and other ship locations with my camera and binoculars just watching the scenery pass by. I met Patrick and Lori through the ShipMate roll call and spent time with them. The excursions were great. The ship and staff were great. Everything was top notch on this cruise.

Great trip to Alaska on... by dennis306

Sail date: /
Ship: Star Princess

Great trip to Alaska on the Star Princess last week. The staff was amazing, entertainment exceptional, and the ports of call were awesome. Our balcony cabin was cozy but comfortable, and certainly more than met our needs. Though the ship is an older vessel, you would really hardly notice. Very clean and well kept. Embarkation and debarkation were flawless. The staff worked very very hard to make this trip an enjoyable experience, and they were completely successful from our point of view. What a wonderful vacation!

This trip was phenomenal. Loved... by FranEh

Sail date: /
Ship: Star Princess

This trip was phenomenal. Loved the ship: food was great (I highly recommend the dining room for dinner); the entertainment was nice (they work really hard to make everything run smoothly); the time at port is perfect (except for Victoria- tip: you are at least a 30 minute walk from downtown, and the line for the shuttle is huge). I liked the amenities (spa, heated pools, casino). If you are looking for a tranquil voyage, this is the ship for you. If you are looking for a party, go on a carnival cruise. There was a good dancing number, but there could have been more. I did like the magician!!! Very cool. An evening in the piazza with the violinist and the pianist is a treat. Caution: everything is overpriced, but that’s a cruise ship. That’s is Alaska and that is Seattle. I would do this cruise and cruise line again.

Disappointed overall. Other cruises have been more enjoyable. Surprised in food quality and cabin cleanliness. Most staff were very helpful and pleasant. The dining room and buffet staff could not be any better. Very impressed. Never able to get room service on the phone. NEVER
