Iceland is a bucket list location that does not disappoint. Experiencing it on a cruise with a smaller ship, like WindStar Star Pride provided unique port opportunities that would not have been possible with a large vessel. The people of Iceland are warm and friendly, as is the staff on the ship. I loved that they called us when Northern Lights appeared to ensure we did not miss that opportunity. Although we sailed on the next to the last week, we were fortunate with better than usual weather. Every day was sunny and the rare time it rained, it was only a sprinkle. The excursions are a must-do. We generally make our own excursions when we cruise, but I am glad that we decided to take advantage of the WindStar excursions. The tour guides were knowledgeable and friendly throughout.
Embarkation
5 out of 5
Easy and quick.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
4 out of 5
The main restaurant and buffets were excellent. Of special note was the evening that included being served while walking through the kitchen. What a unique opportunity to see that well-honed production. Unfortunately we sailed during a "plant based" cruise, so if you did not want to partake in that, your selections were reduced.
Onboard Activities
4 out of 5
The Star Pride is a small ship, so amenities and activities were limited. However, that is to be expected when you are there for the scenery and experiences.
Entertainment
3 out of 5
While the evening with the Icelandic guest singer was great and the crew talent night was fun, it was repetitive to have the same 2 performers (sing/band) the rest of the time.
Children's Programs
There were no children on board. This is definitely an adult cruise.
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
Loved our room steward - very attentive.
Ship Quality
5 out of 5
Everything was clean and fresh. The layout made it easy to get anywhere in minutes.
Cabin / Stateroom
5 out of 5
These cabins are quite large. It makes me wonder if the suites could possible be larger. The bathroom had double sinks and the living area was also quite spacious.
Ship tip
I would ask if there are any large groups sailing at the same time, and how that might impact the normal food choices.
All of the fjords were surrounded by breathtaking beauty. From waterfalls everywhere to lava fields and carved mountains, they do not disappoint. We had bonus sightings of a whale and an arctic fox during our excursion.
