Review summary

A memorable and amazing journey to the bottom of the world, unlike any place we've been. A cruise we'd highly recommend to everyone.

Embarkation

Smooth sailing from airport pick up to terminal arrival.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Food was tasty. Portions in the Restaurant were small, but enabled several courses including dessert and were beautifully presented. A list of available wines included in our complimentary beverages would have been appreciated.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
hot tub, attended lectures, wellness seminars in spa

Entertainment

5 out of 5
Very professional and varied entertainment

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
All staff was very attentive and ready to accommodate each request

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
First ship I've been on without a lobby, but it worked because there were many gathering places.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Overall it was very comfortable and roomy. The closet, drawer space, sitting area, and bathroom were all exceptional. On 2 of the 3 rough days there was a loud banging since we were in the front of the ship and apparently it was the anchor banging on the metal of the ship due to the direction of the waves. Unfortunately it did keep me awake both nights. On a third night later in the cruise the waves were going in a different direction and there was no banging of the anchor.

Ports of call

Montevideo, Uruguay

Had a private tour throughout the city and learned of the history and the neighborhoods. Enjoyed the riverfront and the park areas.

Port Stanley, Falkland Islands

Volunteer Point-riding out to the beach was adventurous and the hundreds of penguins were fascinating.

Antarctic Experience

5 out of 5
Each day was fantastic and the scenery was stunning, especially when we were actually on the continent. The expedition team took ultimate care to be sure we were always safe and comfortable. A57A, & Glacier Alley was breathtaking.

Ushuaia, Tierra Del Fuego, Argentina

4 out of 5
Walked through the town on day 1, but many places were closed. Went on a tour of Tierra Del Fuego National Park on Day 2. We found it to be lovely and interesting.

Punta Arenas, Chile

4 out of 5
No excursion, but walked around the town checking out buildings, the park, and stores.

Cruise Canal Sarmiento Did not visit port

I am not sure if we visited here because of weather, or if it we just continued in the Chilean Fjords.

Cruise Chilean Fjords

5 out of 5
Cruising through these was spectacular.

Castro, Isla Chiloe, Chile Did not visit port

Dangerous weather conditions we had to continue in the fjords and avoid the port.

Puerto Montt, Chile

We went by the huge lake, to Petrohue Rapids, and the National Park and then to Porto Varo. It was an adorable town.

San Antonio, Chile

We actually did a tour in Santiago since we were flying home from there. We were very impressed with the modern city, yet it had many parks inviting people to be outdoors exercising, biking, walking. Our guide was amazing bringing us to a traditional restaurant near the gondolas and large park, and then to the Dominican Handicraft Market. It was definitely a 5 star tour!

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Seamless and smooth. We all noticed that our cruise director was there wishing us all well at the bottom of the gangway. We had never experienced this type of service before and were quite impressed.
