Sail date: January 02, 2023

Ship: Scarlet Lady

Traveled as: Singles/Friends

Review summary

No smoking a nice plus and a different way of cruising. Liked some of the speciality restaurants. And don’t forget to try the pizza and ice cream shops. And get the app installed and on it when you get onboard with the ship wifi. All happens from the app so good luck leaving your phone off/in cabin.

Embarkation

Not what I am used to so was a little stressful at times. Lady on mic was way too loud once inside. But once I got to my room I was chill again. - recommend arriving at before 11:30am check your bags at the port and getting your wristband just inside the entrance. Then they will shuttle you to the bay (back and forth) then return around your boarding time. Mine was 1:45pm. It will save a bit of time having the band already and the Bay Shops area was a great place to hang out. Or arrive at your boarding time or later.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

Galley food area feedback: (sorta like the buffet area on other ships but no real buffet) 1. the galley is a little weak on options. This is a go to place just to get a bite with some options to pick from. 2. The sushi must be popular the way they make them but for me it is very dry, sticks to the side of my mouth and has no flavor/taste. Not the way i like it. 3. 85% of the items you have to sit and order from a waiter. Its ok but there is no way of telling them while sitting i am ready to be helped... no card on table to flip, light etc. 4. Have to sit to get a salad was unexpected. I came in from the pool to get a salad and at the salad area the staff asked me to sit and order... he was doing nothing .. no orders, just a little clean up... I asked him a few times to make it and after getting a little loud (me that is) he finally made it. It took him 45 seconds and i was able to pick out what i wanted by seeing and pointing, asking for little of this but more of that. Think he got back at me by putting a lot of dressing when i clearly said very very little. Should not be a struggle to order at the salad at the counter when he is not busy/or during slow times. Saved me probably 20+- minutes from sitting, waiting on a waiter who has no way of knowing if you need help since there is nothing to flip on the tables to say you want service .. felt invisible at times previously unless i asked loudly can you pls take my order. Never seen the Noddle area and some other food areas open in the Galley. Prob why the options are minimul in this area.

Onboard Activities

Casino - just not happy with it. 1: not enough BlackJack tables available. The under 100$ were always full as the 3 card/holdem etc had nobody. 2: do not like playing at auto shufflers tables. 3. If you want a none- shuffler table you need to play $100 per hand minimum and they use 8 decks. Never heard of 8 decks before. 6 would of been better and then i would of played more. 4. Staff were great and that there is no smoking is awesome! Fitness center. Perfect in many ways. Just busy. Virgin App: 1. like it overall. Locked out a few times on day 1 but after that worked like a charm the entire trip. A must get. Wifi. Probably the best i had on my last 3 cruises over the month of December. NCL sucked, Royal voom was just ok. But i got a lot more work done on Virgin. Wifi calling on ATT phones for me was a hit or miss working .. were on Royal voom wifi was no issues.

Entertainment

a bit awkward but found them different, in a good way. I personally like to see something that has more of a story line/broadway feel in one of the shows. Entertaining. A lot of dancing and hard working staff in them. No real complaints but nothing that you would stand up and clap like the NCL Choir of the Men show i saw that was 5 stars stand up clap at the end.

Service and Staff

Staff around the ship 5 stars. Tips are included but i gave some as well during. Room 5 stars - but oddly did not see any soap for the sink so used the body wash in the shower when needed Stewards - room cleaners - 4 stars.. on my royal if they see some cloths laying out they did fold them and even hang em. Fine Dining Restaurants staff - 5 stars.. loved them all . Ate at the Korean restaurant twice as it was my favorite for meeting others and fun at the table. They seat you with other guests and you get your own chef at the table which is very cool. Enjoyed the 3-6-9 bum-be game. salon - wanted my hair temp colored a bright color but after 50 minutes in the salon it did not take. So spend another 45 minutes getting a reg colored. Was a bit disappointed, i assume attendant should know it would not take in my hair. I don't know just spent to much time at the Salon and was ready to get out of there. She tried to get my to sign a release form of some type when done. Told her i would not. Silly.

Cabin / Stateroom

Used to be spoiled on royal wear the steward would fold/hang my small messes. Room: I had the XL room.. that it was awesome size. Loved the bathroom/show and nice size toilet finally for a cruise ship.. Ipad device in the room you can control the tv/blinds/AV/Movies . Lack of tv channels but plenty of movies to watch. Highly recommend Ground Hogs Day lol.

Ship tip

Do not panic if you did not make your restaurant reservations 30 days (or when they allow you to make them before your cruise) as when you get on.. get on the ships wifi and book them in the virgin app... have a pencil and paper to write down your agenda to help keep everything organized while booking. Also reserve your shows right when you get on board. - was easy as many had availability. Also I had no problem going to a show/restaurant and getting in without a reservation.

Ports of call

The Beach Club (Virgin Voyages), Bimini Bahamas

Liked it. Away from the hustle and bustle of Nassau. Very small island with nobody to try to get you to buy something/take a tour. Went to their beach /pool area. Lunch starts at 12 noon Just Walk to left side of the place. - was great. The staff from the ship are there cooking up and serving the food. Around 1pm the DJ area passes out floats for the right pool. Was great. Just a nice calm area and the pools were great! Hugh. Has space for me unlike the cruise ships pool. Small. Crowded and able to swim in it.

Was a breeze. If you did not hear it 10 times lol. Make sure you have your passport in your hand. Also your wrist band is yours to keep. Had no idea.
