We would not be in a hurry to experience Sapphire Princess again. When compared with our previous experience aboard the Sea Princess, this cruise came a very distant second.
Embarkation
4 out of 5
Embarkation at Singapore was smooth and trouble free, with the exception that we ended up with one suitcase belonging to someone else delivered to our stateroom and our suitcase which had obviously been delivered elsewhere showed up just before departure.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
4 out of 5
We didn’t eat in the MDR and we were somewhat disappointed with the variety of food available in the Horizon Court area; especially the desert menu seemed quite limited. We didn’t eat in any specialty restaurant.
Onboard Activities
4 out of 5
The art auction, whilst seemingly poorly supported, was enjoyable and informative and professionally presented.
The art team were very knowledgable and helpful.
Entertainment
3 out of 5
We were looking forward as previously to watching some new release movies at Movies Under the Stars, but the program was mainly recorded concerts, with just one newish movie. The live entertainment in Princess theatre that we saw seemed to be catering for the Asian clientele, with the talented singer mainly performing in Chinese. The entertainment in the Piazza was very enjoyable with the piano man and the quintet providing excellent shows.
Service and Staff
3 out of 5
The steward for our stateroom did his job, but was not particularly engaged, it seemed. There were a couple of times his assistance was sought, but there didn't seem to be any real effort to be a 'consummate host'. The crew in general didn't seem as friendly nor as eager to serve as on our previous cruise on Sea Princess.
Ship Quality
4 out of 5
The ship looked clean and well-maintained, and the layout and design were very good.
Cabin / Stateroom
5 out of 5
Our stateroom was lovely; the area was quite central and reasonably quiet. We would certainly recommend this room.
Disembarkation
5 out of 5
Disembarkation went smoothly and we were able to get to the airport for our connecting flight in good time.
Thanks for the review. Good information. That makes sense that an Asian cruise originating in Asia would have mostly Asian entertainment. Also if one eats every meal in the buffet then it would lack variety by the end of the cruise. I'll remember that.
