Review summary
This was our first time sailing with Royal Caribbean. Two prior cruises were with Cunard & Princess... Royal has them beat overall. Our Junior Suite was a very nice size, with a huge walk-in closet. I could have brought another 3 suitcases worth of clothes! Balcony was very wide but not very deep. Two small chairs & a small table; a lot of "standing" space that would have been nice to have a lounger in. The ship is very well laid out, and very clearly marked. Everywhere you turned there were signs directing you. Starboard side was smoking ( we smoke ) with plenty of ashtrays on every deck. My Time Dining still has a few bugs. We arrived, told the host 2 people, and were promptly sat on the end 2 seats of a large, all one family table of 10. Awkward ! When I went back to the host he explained there were only 2 tables for 2... and both were reserved. I think a sucessful MTD program needs to address the fact that most people want to eat by themselves, not at a huge table with strangers. Food was beautifully presented, taste was good, service was great. The 2 speciality restaurants were excellent... well worth the up-charge. We both preferred Portofino over Chops, But thats not to say Chops was not outstanding. Entertainment was so-so. The pictures of the theatre make it look huge & gorgeous.. it is very well arranged. Cunard by far has the best entertainment... very slick Las Vegas Costumes/lighting/sound system... this was more on par with Princess. The whole ship was spotless... smiling crew... GORGEOUS art everwhere. The one thing that made me scratch my head was with $6 million worth of art scattered throughout the ship... why did they have plastic orchids hanging on the walls of the Centrum & 75% plastic greenary surround the solarium pool ? Spa was great, private non-coed sauna & steam rooms in the locker rooms... tile showers. Tons of fresh towels everwhere. On Princess you had to get towels from your stateroom attendant & then keep track of them as they were hard to get replaced. Not here... towels everywhere ! On board coffee was good... drink prices were good. I wish the bars had a better non-alchoholic selection... flavored waters, juice-tea type blends... stuff like that. Overall we loved the entire cruise... definately looking to book with Royal again !Ship experiences
