4.2
Hi all! Going on the cruise to Alaska in August. Should we book the excursions in advance or will we be able to choose when we get to the different ports?

many ports can be done without buying an excursion if you can walk some. However, things like whale watching or train rides, I'd recommend pre-booking. Using outside vendors is many times a good choice.

I can't speak for what will be available at the port, but I do recommend setting up your excursions ahead of time. Just 1 less thing to worry about.

If you want to do one specific thing, book it in advance - but find the "best" price.if you are flexible, wait till you get there. the weather is often variable, so whale watching or a float plane trip c/b cancelled. there are lots of vendors on the docks, so you should have options. and the Excursions desk could still have many great options. And, you could also plan some stuff on your own. The Lumberjack show in Ketchikan is right near the pier, and next to a great restaurant too!
