Review summary

The first port of call in Maderia, my cousin flew back to the UK and left me solo for 9 days. Interestingly, she was not the only one as the Cunard Pursuers informed her that another couple had flown home because the entertainment had been so bad!! I stuck the cruise out as it had been my ‘dream’ to go with Cunard. It’s not put me off cruising, but it won’t be with them.

Embarkation

4 out of 5
Efficient and well organised

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
The food in the ‘steerage’ (as I called the main dining room was good. The ‘food snobbery’ in this ship is unreal, with ‘who is eating in what restaurant at what ‘class’. Definitely reminded me of The Titanic movies and we know how that ended! Be AWARE of the drinks prices! I don’t drink alcohol, but a fiver for a bottle of coke is absolutely ridiculous! God knows how much the drinks where...I think that contributed to most people being in bed early!

Onboard Activities

2 out of 5
Entertainment was geared up for mostly the 70+ age group. With 3 days at sea at the start of the cruise in rotten weather, lousy day-time programme unless you were into WW11, crocheting, knitting or watching a movie. For two 50 year old female’s, who where not interested in Ballroom dancing either, bored had set in by the end of Day 2!

Entertainment

2 out of 5
The first 3 days were completely dire. With a ‘dodgy’ comedian on for two straight nights in the theatre or the other option was Ballroom dancing! Day 3 was the Cunard singers and dancers, which was the only time we laughed! They were that bad, we left after only 10 minutes!

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
The staff saved the cruise for me. They just couldn’t do enough for you, especially our Steward who was amazing. The waiters in the main restaurant were so professional despite having to deal with two horrendous storms

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
The ship was spotless

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
6019 - Balcony Cabin was certainly showing signs of age. Very stained carpet, electric sockets could do with an upgrade as could their tv system as their daytime entertainment is so poor!

Ship tip

Throughly research the daytime programmes to ensure this is the cruise for you and be aware the ship is ‘dead’ just after 11pm (even on so called Gala Nights!).

Disembarkation

Utter chaos
