Review summary

This is a fine ship for a transatlantic cruise. It is smooth and stabile, and offers enough to keep you busy if you want to be busy, but also places to just relax.

Embarkation

Embarkation was well organized and easy.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
I wish we had know that there was the option for open dining. I would have signed up for that. We were able to take advantage of it when some events prevented us from dining at our appointed time. The food was good. On the first night, the restaurant bar computer system was not working properly and we were delayed in having dinner because the cocktails that were ordered by some of our table-mates didn't arrive for a long time.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
My husband enjoyed the table tennis games and tournaments. He also enjoyed the Shakespeare workshop. I didn't participate in activities. During the day, I went to lectures and plays.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
Some of the lectures were excellent, some not so great. There was one very bright speaker but who just didn't speak well. The others were excellent. Much of the evening entertainment was very good, but not all and we didn't attend every night. The National Symphony Orchestra performed well but there was not as much classical music that we had hoped to hear. We loved the young performers from the Royal Shakespeare company.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Most of the staff was excellent. Our steward was great.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Well designed and well-kept.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
The cabin was fine. The size was as expected and the toiletries were nice.

Ship tip

Choose the open dining unless you really like to be confined to one hour and one table.

Ports of call

New York, New York

5 out of 5
New York is always wonderful. We were there on our own before the crossing. Sailing past the Statue of Liberty is very moving.

Southampton (London), England Did not visit port

We got off the ship, gout out bags, and got on the bus to Heathrow.
