A museum cruise. Lots of artifacts of cruising past. Lavish elegant passageways. But don't expect modern cruising experiences. Take it for what it is...
Embarkation
1 out of 5
Embarkation took 4.5 hours of standing in lines due to late arrival of shop. Two people collapsed in line. Cunard did not provide any water of facilities for passengers. Worst boarding ever.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
3 out of 5
Bot what I expected for the fare. Buffet was below average compared to Celebrity, Holland, or newer Royal Caribbean. Seating was a challenge in buffet. Tables in distant areas and confusing layout. No beverage service. Drinks station filled with washing machine racks. Main dining nothing special. Two top tables had only 3 inch spacing between them so it was always a shared table experience. Staff was attentive but always hurried. Few main course selections, heavy British food with meats and lamb on menu.
Onboard Activities
4 out of 5
Very limited outdoor activities. Pool deck very basic and worn. No colors. Everything dirty white with rust. Outdoor decks look like freighter. Rust everywhere. Dance classes in Queens room very good. Well attended and good instructors. Only two very basic fitness classes while on board. Very small uncrowded gym.
Entertainment
5 out of 5
Queens room band and dancing the gighlight of cruise. Large ballroom with bandshell style stage. Production shows well done but main stream product.
Service and Staff
3 out of 5
Taking it all in the service level was adequate. Same working staff as on every other cruise ship. Nothing different. Actually ships officer staff almost never seen.
Ship Quality
2 out of 5
Rusty ship all over exterior decks. Upper decks empty as if hauling containers. Buffet decks dirty at doorways. Floor is dingy. Furnishings are elegant but worn. Layout of ship confusing but necessary for low center of gravity steady ships feel.
Cabin / Stateroom
4 out of 5
Not new but nice. Lots of storage space. Great mattress and linens. Two daily servicing. No USB ports. Wifi sketchy. Bathroom functional but very dated. Dingy shower curtain. Balcony large but rusty.
Ship tip
Take it in as a museum cruise. Explore the artwork and enjoy riding the small but elegant elevators. Crowd is spread out so never felt congested. Almost no kids.
As the other poster indicated, all passengers were notified of the delay. That crew member that was rushed to the hospital in Halifax, ultimately died of a heart attack.
The ship was late because it had to divert to Halifax for a medical emergency. Passengers embarking in New York were advised and told to arrive 6 hours later than their original embarkation time. If people will insist on turning up much earlier than their allocated time, there will be longer queues than necessary.
Facilities (or lack thereof) at the Brooklyn terminal are the responsibility of the Port Authority, not Cunard.
