Review summary

Love, love, love the QM2. The cruising experience is exceptional. Embarking and disembarking are the only downsides. Not well organized, very slow, very tedious. But the rest is glorious!

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
Food in the main dining room and King's Buffet was outstanding. No need to dine anywhere else!

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
We loved the High Tea every afternoon in the Queen's Room. We also enjoyed the ability to observe the bridge, visiting the pets on Deck 12, but mostly spent time at the indoor pool on deck 12. There are game tables with very large windows on deck 2. We brought our own games and checked out some games from the fabulous library on deck 8. It was so relaxing to play games and enjoy the sea - even saw some dolphins!

Entertainment

5 out of 5
The Queen Mary 2 Royal singers and dancers are the best on the seas! Most of the shows were excellent.

Children's Programs

We did not bring children.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Every staff member anxious to make our voyage the best.

Ship Quality

Every bit of the ship was immaculate

Cabin / Stateroom

We had an inside cabin. We were a bit leery about it - but it was perfect. We were on deck 12 and exactly 30 steps to the indoor pool & hot tubs. Easy access to everything! The beds were super comfy, the bathroom was larger than Royal Caribbean's. We also used the complimentary robes & slippers. We had enough space for the 3 of us to be happy. The chocolates at bedtime were a definite plus.

Ship tip

Both times I have been on the QM2, I was so glad I didn't waste my money on a balcony. I love a balcony for a scenic cruise, but the transatlantic crossing is the same view everyday. It was so windy that we never knew of anyone that could enjoy the balconies. Much of our cruise we the doors to most outside decks were blocked due to near gale force winds. The ship handles the seas like a dream because it's an actual ocean liner. We were one short stairway from a complimentary laundry room. They even supply complimentary laundry detergent! If you take advantage of this, get up early to beat the crowds, and don't try to do your laundry on the last day. We did laundry early on the second to the last day and it was no problem. It is so awesome to be able to pack light because we can wash our clothes!

Ports of call

Southampton (London), England

We stayed 2 nights in Southampton and took a trip to see Stonehenge. We just used the city bus to get to Salisbury and took the green Stone Henge Tour Bus to Stone Henge which we really enjoyed. It was lovely to visit Salisbury, too.

Disembarkation

It was a bit better than embarkation, but we were surprised that it was quite a sluggish and disorganized process. Not simple like our transatlantic Royal Caribbean experience.
