Review summary

Having wondered for years about sailing, rather than flying, between the US and the UK, I took the plunge. I've become something of a old hand at airline routes, classes and seats, but was less sure when it came to ships! Jennifer, Cruise Consultant, could not have done more to help with the booking process and advise as to the best stateroom, position in the ship and dress code, etc. Like so many fellow passengers on my crossing, we didn't want the trip to end, and vowed to book again for next year. The Queen Mary 2 is just magnificent and surpassed my expectations in almost every way. Wonderful food, great crew and comfortable stateroom. Highly recommended - if you're wondering about doing it, do it!

Ship tip

The Britannia class staterooms and restaurant are very fine indeed, and represent a huge saving over higher classes.

The embarkation at New York was a breeze, and far less hassle than any airport.

Southampton (London), England

Again, disembarkation was straigtforward, especially if you're prepared to carry off your own luggage.
