Review summary

This ship centers everything around ballroom dancing even afternoon tea. The bars where very quiet no lively ones anywhere. Jacket compulsory for men every night even for most of the bars. Women in long dresses on formal nights in the minority only about 10% on this cruise to Norway then around the UK it had a very old clientele; made my husband and myself at 75 & 72 feel like spring chickens! Never seen so many women wearing tights and sandals 🤨. Food was good but not as much choice as some ships. The theater has no facilities for drinks not even a cup holder so if you take one be prepared to hold it for the whole performance. The stateroom corridors are stark and boring not a photo or picture to be seen anywhere; never been on any other ship that doesn’t have some interesting artwork to break up the long boring walks we all seem to do in these corridors. Norway was beautiful and the ship organized some good trips. We had the offer to stay on to Rotterdam - 2 extra nights on the ship - for £300 less than if we disembarked at Southampton where we got on : work that one out !! Ship was nowhere near full in July guess they wanted bums on seats as it doesn’t look good to have empty dining rooms. We don’t ballroom dance, a waltz is our limit but with so many good dancers we didn’t feel comfortable taking to the floor. It’s the 1st time we have been Cunard and overall we were disappointed it didn’t have the wow factor I expected. Have heard too many cruisers say “Oh we prefer Cunard it’s so much better”. We had a balcony cabin which was nice but not any nicer than any of the other 23 cruises that we have been on and there is no freedom dining unless you are in a grill suite. Set dining is 6:00 or 8:30 shows are 8:30 and 10:30 there is no early show, therefore, if you are in 8:30 dining and go to the show it’s midnight every night before you go to bed and most of the trips went early in the mornings. Wouldn’t choose Cunard again didn’t think it was good value compared to say Celebrity Aqua Class where you have the Blue Dining room with freedom dining where we never book just walk in; true sometimes you have to wait but they give you a buzzer. You can also reserve a table for a specific time. The presentation of the food is far superior to that in the Queen Elizabeth’s Britannia Dining Room. I am a white wine drinker and one thing that really bugged me is the Britannia dining room serve all wines in the same large glass which is good for red to breath but white wine gets warm too quick.
