Review summary

The ship was fantastic! Pride of Hawaii is large and beautiful! The staff was eager to please and friendly. Our cabin steward Jenny always had our cabin made up fresh and clean everyday and gave us fresh towels, toilet paper and thing else we needed without having to ask. The food was also excellent! The buffet always had a lot of food and a wide variety. On prime rib and lobster night we ate at Alizar and were quickly waited on by 3 waiters! The food and service were both of top quality. I doubt I'd get any better service in a five star restaurant! Cagney's was also very good but a bit expensive. They read off exotic water list like it was a wine list and I picked one without thinking. Also surf and turf or while main lobster had an extra charge on top of the extra charge for being there. We each ordered surf and turf, had the expensive water and I had a couple of beers. This brought the bill up to about $69! The food and service were about the same as Alizar where I only paid for the beer. Jasmine had only an extra $10 charge but was well worth it! The beef was even better than Cagney's and was so tender I could cut it with a fork! I ordered the $79 honeymoon package which included a bottle of sparkling wine which was delivered with chocolate covered strawberries to our cabin upon disembarkation. We save this bottle and brought it to Jasmine where the put it in a special container and gave us excellent service. We also ate at papa's the Italian restaurant where there was no extra charge at all. The food was good. I especially loved the antipasti cart! On our last night we ate at Le Bistro. The dinner here was included in the $79 honeymoon package along with another bottle of wine selected from any wine on their menu. We selected a bottle of 2004 sparkling wine from Italy which was delicious! This along with the excellent meal, atmosphere and service made the honeymoon package well worth the price! We saw only one show on the ship which was a song and dance show of current hits on Broadway. It was very well done! There was always some bands playing somewhere on the ship. During the day they played out by the pool. Mentioning the pool the waterslide was a lot of fun and the hot tubs were hot and soothing. We went on shore everyday and mostly rented cars to do our own thing. On day one we went to Volcano National Park. It was an awesome sight! The view from Volcano House was fantastic! We had just a light lunch of tuna sandwiches there since that night was prime rib and lobster night on the ship and we didn't want to spoil our appetites. The next day we were in Maui and went to Lahaina where we mostly strolled through shops during the day and went The Old Lahaina Luau at night. The show, food and endless drinks were all excellent! The price includes a very large meal along with exotic island drinks as well as beer - as much as you want! It was for this reason we took a shuttle bus to get there and would have taken it back but another couple from the ship was kind enough to give us a ride back to the ship in their rental car. The next day didn't go so well do to weather. We were going to take the submarine ride in Honolulu for $85 each but saw a sign for it in Lahaina for $20. It turned out to be that price only if you were willing to spend the morning in a time share presentation. We decided to go for it. The presenter was very quick to decide we werent really interested and just gave us the sub tickets! We got the tickets for just $20 for the two of us - $10 each!!!!! We took this in Honolulu. Our most favorite excursion was Safari Helicopter ride which was complete with music through our ear phones during the pilot's narration. We also got a DVD for $28 which included the music and conversation with the pilot. We went on the Ships Hula Tkiki Cruse in Kona which had a live band, hula dancers and all you could drink bar. Over all The Pride of Hawaii was excellent!!!!!!

Pros: Safari Helicopter Tour

Cons: United Airlines - No food, hassels at the airport, lost and damaged luggage

Recommends Pride of Hawaii? Yes!
