Review summary

We had very high expectations based upon our prior experience with NCL. Unfortunately this cruise fell short of our expecations.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

Most of our meals were just ok, certainly not what we had expected based upon our previous NCL experience. The Italian restaurant meal that we had was awful and the French restairant experience was not much better. Freestyle dining was supposed to mean eating when we wanted to but we waited to be seated most of the time, sometimes for as long as 45 minutes.

Entertainment

We enjoyed the comedy show. The illusionist was a little overblown and not very original. The song and dance reviews were entertaining.

Service and Staff

Our cabin steward provided good service. Wait staff was inconsistant and service was often poor. The shore excursion staff were unimpressive and we were surprised that the purser's office staff lacked knowledge about the ship.

Ship Quality

The ship was well kept. The decor was tasteful; especially liked the atrium ceiling. Most public places seemed able to accommodate the people who wanted to use them. The public bathrooms were small. Did not like that the aft elevators and stairs could only be accessed at the 6th floor or higher which meant we had to take a round about way to get to some locations.

Cabin / Stateroom

The room required dusting when we got there which I did myself. It was smaller than expected based upon our recent cruising experience on other ships. Did like that we had a shower door as opposed to a curtain and there was certainly enough room to put everything. The bedding was just fair -- flat pillows and only a duvet which was often too warm.

We enjoyed everything we did on this island from driving along the coast and watching the whales, to our snorkeling trip and luau which were not ship excursions and our visit in Lahaina.

Cons: free style dining and the lack of wait staff service

Recommends Pride of Hawaii? No.
