Review summary

This was supposed to be a once in a lifetime Bucket List trip. On any other cruise line it probably would have been. We were informed (11 days prior to departure) that they would be limiting services onboard (specialty restaurants closed, dining room only open for dinner, etc.) with not indication of re-imbursement for reduced services. When I inquired about this with guest services onboard, I was put off by the manager and told no offers would be made. You can see by my comments above, how the cruise turned out.

Embarkation was fine,

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
As cruise ships/Lines go, this ship was below average in selection, presentation and taste.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
not too much variety from cruise staff. They seemed burned out.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
Stage Troop shows were good. Magician, not so much.

Service and Staff

2 out of 5
Cabin service was slow. Finally met cabin steward on 3rd day. Never asked if he could get me anything.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
Older ship. Needs some work.

Cabin / Stateroom

2 out of 5
Poor view and noisy (wind) from sliding door. Toilet kept running on and filling the bowl. Bed linens were torn and frayed. Had to ask 2 times to get them changed.

Ship tip

Don't. Visit the islands by air and hotel. You can do the tours at a cheaper price and get more for your money.

Disembarkation

Rushed by ship to depart. I don't understand why, the crew doesn't do much to get ready for next cruise.

The Pride, being the only American flagged large cruise ship, has to meet fairly stringent US staffing requirements. It has been WIDELY publicized that the Pride has had issues post COVID with staffing. The cost to operate the Pride is well above that of your average cruise ship. We are lucky to have her, to be honest. At one time NCL America had three ships there… and lost tons of money… All this review tells me is that you had a POOR travel agent OR you didn’t do your own homework before booking.

The Pride of America is an older ship and not the typical NCL experience. It is primarily for being able to cruise roundtrip from Hawaii on a larger ship and not have to sail to / from the US mainland. It has been well publicized this year that the ship was operating with a reduced staff and services due to staffing issues.
