Review summary

We, four of us, went on this cruise, B2B, to try out the Pacific Princess to see if we can handle the small ship for our booked 2020 World Cruise. We almost canceled the World Cruise because of the worst food we've ever tasted on a Princess cruise ship. This small ship has its unique charm and has its loyal following.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Embarkation was great. Dropped of the luggage, checked in and walked on the ship.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

1 out of 5
This was the worst food of all the cruises I've been on. We wondered if the food budget was small due to the size of the ship. But, the lacking in funding should make the food taste sooooo bad. The service in the dining room was substandard which was reflected in the food quality. We ate at the buffet most of the time purely to survive.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
Due to the size of the ship we didn't have a high expectation of available activities. The Cruise Director did well and kept things going.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
The production shows were modified to perform on the small stage. Guest entertainers are a hit and miss, like all the other ships.

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
The crew of this ship was its most valuable asset from our perspective. The Captain was fabulous and the staff officers were all very friendly, the crew was wonderful. Our dining room waiter was adequate but the junior waiter's service was inconsistent and bad.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
The ship is very small and we had to adjust our mindset that getting to the activity doesn't take 10 minutes. It only took a couple of minutes to get to wherever you wanted to go on this ship. The common areas were clean and well maintained. The librabry on this little ship is huge and very well stocked with books.

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
The cabin was narrow and long. We were surprised to find the nightstands did not have drawers only two open shelves. Closet space is smaller and enclosed. The bathroom does not have any counter space at all. There are three corner shelves right next to the toilet and two wire racks in the shower. The wall mount hairdryer was very difficult to use. Two incidents of leaking from the AC vent in the room. The leak originated from the utility space above the room and not the AC.

Ship tip

Bring plenty of snacks.

Ports of call

Ft. Lauderdale (Port Everglades), Florida

5 out of 5
This is a very well organized port and it actually makes the cruisers feel welcome.

New York, New York

Plenty to do at this port. We did not do an excursion and ventured out with friends.

Halifax, Nova Scotia

5 out of 5
This is our 3rd visit to this port. We looked forward to our return visit to have the best lobster meal. Again, the lobster meal was wonderful at the McKelvie's.

Reykjavik, Iceland

5 out of 5
Our 2nd visit to this beautiful country. We signed up for a whale-watching excursion with the ShoreExcursionsGroup but missed the excursion because we were provided with the wrong pickup time. We got a full refund but would have preferred to see the whales.

Isafjordur, Iceland

3 out of 5
A tendered port, not as big as Reykjavik. We purchased a walking tour through Viator. The guide explained the history of the town.

Akureyri, Iceland

3 out of 5
Our second visit to this port. The first visit was to the waterfalls. This time we went on the whale watching excursion with the ship.

Torshavn, Faroe Islands

2 out of 5
The weather was cold and foggy. Our excursion with MMTours was changed to something else and we declined the change. Walked around town and didn't find anything interesting.

Lerwick, Shetland Islands, Scotland

5 out of 5
Very beautiful country. We purchased a South Mainland tour with KittyWake Tours. The tour was good but the transportation was horrible. It was a private tour for the four of us and the car used for the tour was way too small.

Dover (London), England

5 out of 5
We tried very hard to arrange for an excursion to see the White Cliffs of Dover but couldn't make it work because the tour was too long and couldn't believe when the ship docked right across from the White Cliffs!!

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Disembarkation was great.
