Review summary

We regret having booked our Alaska cruise in the Ovation of the Seas because they didn’t deliver what they promised. First, they changed the route, skipping the port of Sitka, the former Russian town; secondly the Captain decided to avoid the glacier passage because he saw a few scattered ice pieces floating and didn’t want to compromise the safety of the ship. What about us that paid to have a once in a lifetime opportunity and experience of watching the glaciers and couldn’t ? Not even a credit or discount for a next cruise! The Windjammer needs a lot of improvement, particularly the cooking of the bacon: strips half raw and half overcooked and all stuck together and not sorted on the serving plate. I could go on with further details but it would take more space.

Ship tip

Don’t book shore excursions: too expensive and not worth the price; public transportation with hard seats side placed(backs towards the window) buses instead of soft cushioned front oriented motor coach’s seats. we couldn’t see the Victoria city scenery .

I’m going with the issue here is the cruiser and not the ship, staff or cruise line.

Missing an anticipated port is always a disappointment. However, you should be happy the captain kept both your safety and the ship as his #1 priority. You may have been more disappointed if a glacier damaged the ship and you had to suffer those consequences.

Sorry you were disappointed. Not seeing the glacier is a big letdown.

Unfortunately, your cruise contract states they can change the route or ports at any time without offering you any compensation. It's important to read the fine print so you aren't disappointed.
