Review summary

I learned so much from this trip-I want to take my new found knowledge and try another cruise with luggage. This trip I felt I spent most of my time trying to find my luggage or searching for clothes that would fit. This was my second solo cruise and Holland America does a great job of making singles feel comfortable. They had special activities so you could meet other solo or single travelers.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Once I made it to the Pier, Holland American staff was very efficient and organized.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
They did a really good job with gluten free food. They had very limited choices but they were very careful preparing the orders so they didn’t cross contaminate.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
They had a small variety of activities. They had a beautiful pool which I was unable to enjoy because my sensitive skin sunscreen and book were both in my suitcase which I never received.

Beauty Salon

5 out of 5

Mo did a great job on my hair. Without my luggage, I had no products and no dryer or flat iron.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
Enjoyed the comedian, BB King’s band, and the dancers.

Children's Programs

I was a solo traveler.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Room Steward, Kabul and his assistant Made were great! Always checking to see if I needed anything and getting my laundry washed every day because I had no luggage. Guest Services provided me with clothes to wear while the items I had on were laundered. But they failed to pick up my luggage in San Francisco when The Airline dropped it off. And I was unable because I was at sea on the ship.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
It was an older ship but it was clean.

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
The cabin was very small, I was glad I was traveling alone.

Ship tip

Be sure to pack a heavy sweater, the air conditioning was very chilly in some areas.

Ports of call

Vancouver (Canada Place), British Columbia Did not visit port

I arrived late and just barely cleared customs in time to complete a lost luggage report and make it to the ship.

Astoria, Oregon

5 out of 5
Beautiful little town but I didn’t get to explore it, I took the crew’s bus to stores so I could buy some walking shoes and clothes because I didn’t have any luggage.

San Francisco, California

5 out of 5
I did the Hop on Hop off bus. It had an audio recording that was very informative. I got to see all the major sites-Golden Gate Bridge and Park, Chinatown, And Pier 39.

Santa Barbara, California

5 out of 5
Santa Barbara is beautiful and they have many beautiful walking tours all planned on line and they are free to download.

San Diego, California Did not visit port

I headed straight to the airport to try to track down my missing luggage.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Very smooth and easy.
