Been on 20+ cruises. First time with HAL. I don't expect everything to go super smoothly on a cruise ship. Usually find something good to appreciate. But on the Oosterdam, lack of service, few activities, average food, and the closure of kids area with no replacement supervision made for a disappointing experience.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
3 out of 5
Bland food, some nights better then others, poor pizza, I think grandma might be happy but those whos taste buds have evolved past 1959 will be disappointed.
Entertainment
1 out of 5
Entertainment was good, but very few options. Always lines way out the door from venues during shows and too crowded inside. Never seen anything like it on a cruise ship
Children's Programs
1 out of 5
Children's area was closed, under maintenance. They were everywhere else on deck unsupervised as staff did not provide alternative activities
Service and Staff
1 out of 5
Staff was friendly. However, room steward didn't do his job. Room not made up after all 3 shore excursions. If I've been away from room 9 hours, on all other cruise lines I return to a made up room. Not so with HAL.
Ship Quality
3 out of 5
Ship is well maintained, solid colors, conservative, not much wow factor
Cabin / Stateroom
3 out of 5
Everything worked. Poor placement of light switches. If one party needs to come in after the while the other is sleeping, the one who is sleeping will be awoken.
Pros: Enrichment programs
Cons: Poor Service, Childrens running amock as program area closed, Limited activities
