Review summary

This was my first cruise so I have nothing to compare it to. However -- while the level of service from employees and cleanliness of the shop was outstanding-- the cruise itself was a huge disappointment resembling nothing so much as an interminable week long stay at an airport. I think I'll just keep on with my self-guided, self planned travel. (Also how could this app possibly calculate my overall rating as a 4.5???? It's more like a 3.0)

Embarkation

4 out of 5
Getting on and off the boat was fairly easy given the amount of people they need to process.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

2 out of 5
The food in the main dining room and buffet was poor. I ate dinner in the main dining room twice and both times my dinners were inedible. The specialty restaurants were somewhat better though certainly not outstanding. The best food by far was to be had in the Solarium Bistro. I also enjoyed the quieter, less hectic setting of the Bistro.

Onboard Activities

2 out of 5
The main pool was very crowded and marred by having one side of its deck devoted to smokers. I preferred the solarium pool, which was somewhat less crowded. Unfortunately the main pool was virtually the only outdoor space on the ship. So I spent way more time on this cruise indoors than I would have liked.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
I saw The Book, which had a talented cast, fancy effects and no discernable plot. Other shows such as the comedian and various performers were fine but it was the same or similar shows every night. Not a lot of variety and there was a lot of silly filler stuff like "the love and marriage game".

Children's Programs

No kids.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
This ship is very lucky to have a hard working, dedicated and personable crew. Kudos and appreciation to you all.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
The ship was very clean thanks to its hard working crew. As noted above, I was disappointed in the lack of outdoor space. For most if my trip, I felt as if I was stuck in a nicer airport.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
Nice cabin, more than ample storage and very clean. We enjoyed the balcony, especially since there was so little outdoor space on this ship. My only suggestion would be a ventilation fan in the bathroom since it did stay a bit damp in there.

Ship tip

I did not enjoy my experience. However, I did talk to many people who seemed to like the ship.

Ports of call

Perfect Day At Coco Cay, Bahamas

3 out of 5
I spent the day at the adults only portion of the island. It was clean with a small man-made beach, food and drinks and a large very nice pool. It was nice for what it was, a resort style extension of the ship.

George Town, Grand Cayman

3 out of 5
There's not much here. We did go to 7 Mile Beach, which was nice but not spectacular. It was an easy ride on the public bus ($2.50) each way. We also had a nice lunch at a waterside restaurant about a 5 minute ride from the port.

Falmouth, Jamaica

2 out of 5
This port is basically an artificial, gated Jamaican town center. We did leave the gates only to find a very poor, depressed town with no shops, restaurants or economic base. Shame on Royal Caribbean for walling off the tourists from the locals when what they really should be doing is working with the locals to develop businesses and attractions that would both help the local economy and make Falmouth a destination. Very disappointed.

Disembarkation

4 out of 5
It was fine although I never got a notice through the app as to when my group was supposed to leave.
