Review summary
I enjoyed a 2-night inaugural sailing on the Odyssey of the Seas. This was mainly travel partners and their +1; my plus one was my husband. Having the whole ship to ourselves was quite nice. I had only ever sailed with Disney before, so my expectations were high, and this met and exceeded many of them! The staff was awesome and so ready to assist with anything. They all were very friendly and said hello as you passed. The room was very nice, an aft facing balcony, so we were able to watch the ports disappear behind us all while having a slight breeze and peacefulness. My only complaint about the room would be the amount of room between the foot of the bed and the wall, but otherwise very spacious. We ate in the main dining hall both nights and there was plenty to choose from. Our wait staff both nights was impeccable and very much catered to our needs. The quality of food was okay, not bad, not great. On prior sailings the food was that of a nice restaurant, and here it was more of a buffet line quality. I will say I do feel the pandemic may have caused part of this issue with supply/ demand issues. We were able to sample some of the offers of the specialty ($) dining and they were all tasty. We stopped into all of the open bars/ restaurant to get a quick glimpse or experience. By far the Bionic Bar was the coolest thing we've seen in a long time! We stopped there more than one. (LOL) The private island, Coco Cay, was clean and not very populated although there was a standard sailing (Symphony of the Seas) with its guests there as well. The food fell in line with our experience on the ship and there were loads of options to choose from. We signed up for a shore excursion (swimming with the pigs) but sadly the weather did not cooperate and it was canceled. They fully refunded us without issue. Since we were unable to do the shorex, we chose to do a couple's massage on board. This was AMAZING. The ladies were petite but oh- so- mighty! My husband nodded off during those 50 minutes. Embarkation wasn't bad at all as long as you have all of your documents ready. They requested passports/ vaccine cards/ negative test as well as scanned your boarding pass. We showed our information 3 times from start to finish for embarkation. Debarkation was unremarkable, we walked off the ship after scanning our boarding pass, had our picture taken at customs, and left. We did have transfers from the airport (FLL) to the port and vice versa. They were easy to find and timely.Overall we had a great experience and it renewed our itch to cruise!Embarkation
