My dining reservations are recommended but not required. There are 2 lines when you enter the dining room… 1 for reservations and 1 for what you’d call “stand by”. If you have a reservation you get seated pretty quickly. If not you may have to wait awhile in the stand by line. That line can move slow or fast depending on the ship and the maître d running the show seating people. Good news tho is if you eat late you can catch the early shows instead of the other way around!

They prefer reservations to avoid overcrowding but for the most part you can show up whenever.

We visited the dining room on the first day of our cruise and set up a time for the entire week.
