As I stated previously, the Norwegian Star is an older ship that has not and is not being maintained to what I consider Norwegian Cruise Line’s standard.
Embarkation

Very organized and efficient
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
4 out of 5
We didn’t eat in either of the main dining rooms. The buffet was typical cruise ship buffet. Cagney Steakhouse and Teppanyaki Asian restaurant was really good. O’Sheehan’s Neighborhood Bar and Grill, food and service were mediocre at best.
Onboard Activities
4 out of 5
I used the fitness center every day, which is well maintained and a good variety of equipment.
Entertainment
4 out of 5
Overall, the entertainment was good, but I wouldn’t say it was spectacular.
Service and Staff
4 out of 5
I know this can make me sound spoiled, but we weren’t aware that Norwegian had gone to no turndown service in the evenings. Our room steward was replaced near the end of the cruise. The one that replaced him was a lot more attentive to making up the room.
Ship Quality
2 out of 5
The Norwegian Star is an old ship. I think it came into service in 1998. We sailed on this ship two years ago on a different itinerary. It doesn’t look like they have done much to it in the past two years. The deck outside of our room hadn’t been painted in a long time and rust was showing in the ceiling part of the deck, the carpet in our room was old and worn in many places.
Cabin / Stateroom

The comfort size and cleanliness of the room was fine. See above about the outside deck and the lack of maintenance and painting in that area.
Ship tip
Just be aware that you’re going to be sailing on an older ship that isn’t maintained to the top level.
That’s too bad the ship is not being maintained well. Maybe a dry dock is coming up. Yes NCL and some other lines have cut the cabin service in half. But at the same time, they raised their automatic tips
NCL uses the smaller ships for port heavy itineraries. We only book these ships when we know we will be off the ship for a large portion of the trip. That way we are never disappointed with the lack of Amenities. 😀
