Review summary

Disappointed for a once in a lifetime trip to Iceland and Greenland. We have been long time NCL customers, and we will not be using them on our next cruise. We paid extra gratuity fees having a suite, but we got the same service that a regular stateroom received.

Embarkation

4 out of 5
We had a Suite so embarkation was quick since we had a separate line for check-in.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

2 out of 5
Dinner took about an hour and 20 minutes to get to our main course in the main dining locations. Specialty dining was great!

Onboard Activities

2 out of 5
They had very limited activities to do on the ship like origami, Spanish conversational class, and some games.

Entertainment

2 out of 5
Main productions (3 shows) were very short. They only lasted 40 minutes which on other Norweigan Ships they have been much longer.

Children's Programs

3 out of 5
Not a lot of teenagers using the child program. My teen only went a few times since it was a small ship.

Service and Staff

3 out of 5
Our specialty dining staff was amazing and the Atrium Cafe (Starbucks) staff was expectional and really got to know us and our beverages we ordered.

Cabin / Stateroom

Our Suite was amazing for the 4 of us. We had a very large wall of windows which was great for visiting Iceland and Greenland. Our butler worked hard to fill our requests, but food services would not fill our requests like chocolate chips cookies for my son or having a cheese platter in our room for the afternoon snack. Food services hid the chocolate chips cookies behind the buffet counters and had to ask for staff to go find them. Food service chef said that we could not have a cheese platter for our Suite. The chef created very strange food appetizers for us each afternoon that was delivered by our butler. They ran out of orange juice on day 3 of the cruise.

Ship tip

It is a very small ship to keep in mind when traveling. There are not that many excursions available for this cruise and they sell out quickly. Unfortunately many of the excursioins were cancelled on this cruise. I also pre-ordered my photo package and when I picked all my photos, they did not print my pictures and I had to disembark without my purchased photos since my NCL transporation was leaving at 6:30 am and the photo desk did not open till 6 am on disembarkation day. The guest services counter did not seem to care. We filed a complaint with NCL and it has been 12 days since our cruise and not response about my missing pictures still.

Ports of call

Reykjavik, Iceland

5 out of 5
There is quite a bit to do in this port. We did the hop on, hop off bus tour and was able to visit all the big attractions in the capital city.

Djupivogur, Iceland Did not visit port

This port was cancelled due to high winds and rough seas.

Akureyri, Iceland

This was a beautiful port city. It is very small. Our excursion for whale watching was cancelled for this port because the excursion said the weather was not good.

Isafjordur, Iceland

This is a small port and you have to tender to reach this port. It is a beautiful small town and we enjoyed walking around. There is not a lot to do here if you do not have an excursion. We were never able to purchase an excursion for this port even trying to book 6 months before the cruise.

Nanortalik, Greenland

3 out of 5
Again, a very small port that you have to tender to get to. Not a lot to do here in this small town and all the excursions available were walking tours.

Paamiut (Frederikshab), Greenland

This tender port was pretty but the downfall of this port is that it had a massive amount of gnats. Once you tendered in and got off the boat, you were immediately attacked by gnats. We walked to see the church and then got back in line to go back to the ship due to the gnats. Many guests were only at the port a short time. The tendering process to get there and back took a long time.

Nuuk, Greenland

This capital city was beautiful. We were finally able to take an excursion at this port to see icebergs, whale watching, and glaciers with waterfalls. This was out favorite stop in Greenland. The weather was great being in the high 50s.

Disembarkation

2 out of 5
The ship arrived back to the port early. The night before they stated that ship would arrive at 6:30 am and hopefully start disembarkation at 7 am. The breakfast for suites opened at 5:30 am so we thought we had time for breakfast. We sat down and ordered our meals and then the ship called our color to disembark at 6 am. We were racing to try to make our NCL transfer to the airport. I did not enjoy the disembarkation process at all since I did not get to have breakfast before traveling from Iceland to Los Angeles. The communication needs to be improved especially if the ship is coming back to port so much earlier and open restaurants up earlier to accomadate the guests to have breakfast.
