Surprised it was so nice... by eaaeks

Sail date: /
Ship: Norwegian Sky

Surprised it was so nice for what is obviously a booze cruise! Food was decent, not amazing but lots of choices. The staff was so nice and friendly. The entertainment was a little amateur but who cares? The comedian was very funny. Totally spoiled for any other cruise in that the drinks were included. Good drinks, anything you want.. very fun! We had an inside cabin on 6a, very quiet except for the same group that drunkenly came back at 3am every morning. The cabin was small but comfortable. My only complaint is their private island is a tender situation and just before we were to arrive, they cancelled due to high swells. No warning, no hint this would happen. It didn't look very rough so it was a big disappointment. I realize they don't cancel for the fun of it but you know they know in advance it's a possibility, a little warning would've made it better. This ship is not big enough for a "day at sea", they really didn't add much more to do while we drifted around. Lots of bored passengers. It seems to happen frequently, they need a better back up plan. Add more fun on the ship, please.

Beside the mold, I had a great time! by paticia1

This is probably the friendliest crew I've ever encountered! It set the tone for the trip. Cuba was amazing; we just didn't have enough time. I had an authentic Cuban and Mojito. May never get another stateside. Happy

Worst cruise line  food was awful been on many cruises never had such terrible food lost weight and cruise even went to specialty restaurant Italian and got sick for over 24 hours ruined my trip. Service was even worse the people that worked on the boat didn't know their ass from their elbow didn't even know where things were on the boat to direct you. totally needs updating. And the show was very amateur I walked out

Great first cruise experience! by cmayeski

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Sky / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

This was my first cruise so I didn't know what to expect. This was the 4th cruise for the person I traveled with. From the minute we walked in until the minute we left was awesome. Relaxing, lots of activities to goose from, drinks were good, food was ok. I'm not a "foodie" so my opinion on meals won't be a good measure. Lots of options though for sure. We didn't do any specialty restaurants as the main dining and buffet as well as the pizza lunch was enough for the short time on the boat. The crowd was a perfect age mix. Staff was always friendly and everything seemed to be clean. There were never any wait times for food or drinks. Service was extremely prompt. Nassau is what you make of it. Yes, locals were pushy and some ride if you didn't buy from them, but if you don't want to deal with that-stay away from the vendors. Water taxi to Atlantis was enjoyable. Private island was nice as well-we did kayak excursion but due to storm coming in we had to be brought back in by boat. We didn't spend much time on the private island but glad we got to go because it seems that often the seas are too rough for the tenders so they diby even go. I would absolutely do this cruise again. Think it's perfect for a low key relaxing vacation, but can do more if wanted to. Getting on and off the ship was very quick and easy. They have a good system going.

WARNING: this is not... by matdevito

Sail date: /
Ship: Norwegian Sky

WARNING: this is not a cruise if you have children. But if you don't this is the cruise you've been looking for. The Sky is an older cruise ship but it is in very good shape and very clean. It is the smallest ship in the NCL Fleet. I loved the smaller more intimate size of the ship. The flow of people was perfect I never felt crowded, there were always open spaces. It's a booze cruise but I never saw anyone who was drunk and out of control. The pool deck was incredible and the deck barbecues were wonderful. You never had to get up to get your drinks, there were plenty of NCL crew members willing bring them to you. You did not need to tip them and many didn't but we always gave them a dollar and they kept the drinks coming. We never had to leave our seats and they really appreciated the tips. The free food included with your trip was fine. If you are a foodie it may not reach your standards that's why they have other premium restaurants you can eat in for an additional cost. But, if you frequent buffets like the Golden Corral you will fit in here just fine . The entertainment was good but started after 9:30 every night so if you're a early to bed person you're going to miss a lot. Stay out late wake up late is the best plan if you want to enjoy all the entertainment on board. The free Liquor on board was the best part of our trip. it was great being able to have wine with every meal or sit down at any time in any bar and order a drink without having to worry about the cost. Thank God they are only three and four day cruises I could not handle much more drinking then that. Dollar for dollar I believe you could not find a better deal then the Sky.

Overpriced but a fun time by sljohnson82

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Sky / Destination: Cuba

Ship is slightly dated and needs some work. We had one working outlet (out of 3) in our cabin and that was the tv. So we had to keep unplugging the tv to charge our phones, use blow dryer, etc...which was a pain. Food was very good although I was sick every morning except the after the night we ate off the ship at a higher end restaurant in Cuba. Cagney's steakhouse on board was spectacular! But we weren't impressed with Il Adagio (food nor service). Overall it was a great cruise, good majority of the staff was very pleasant, entertainment was great (poolside, didn't check out any shows) and it was clean. Would recommend but expect to pay a premium (probably for the unlimited alcohol) and not expect what I would guess you would normally expect from an NCL cruise

The first to land in Cuba aboard NCL by captainswr

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Sky / Destination: Cuba

Being the first to go to Cuba it was a little hectic, but over all it was a blast. The crew of the ship were very helpful waitstaff bartenders and room service.  "Guest services" from 1 person to the other had no idea and you would get 2 different answers from person to person.. CUBA escursions were over rated. tropicana nites was very nice but not for $200.00 dollars.   Today in Havana was fun, had a good time. Panaramic Havana was ok to.  You would be better off to do your own escursions with the local taxis that you could get at a very low price but still see there pretty city.  The local Cubans pretty much all speak a lil english and we went everwhere.  I felt safe and very humbled with the local people...The great stirrup cay was very pretty and we loved the snorkeling it's just the Seagulls we're a mess they attacked every food opportunity.  Overall it was a great time, the food was very good, and the drinks were free.  I would rate my first boat cruise a very strong B.  WinkHappy

Good Ship, Good Itinerary by NuFooDee

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Norwegian Sky / Destination: Cuba

This was the coziest and most comfortable ship I've been on in a while. We usually go on the huge mega ships, so this was a nice change of pace. Everyone on the ship (staff and guests alike) was super friendly and excited to be on Norwegian Sky's first sailing to Cuba. Our ship was able to dock IN Havana (no tender), and the process of going in and out was easy. We had a simple embarkation / de-embark process. The food, service, and staff were top notch. As it was a smaller ship, there weren't any crazy lines or back ups at any point. We only went for 4 nights but could have easily stayed 6 - this trip was definitely worth the money!

Myself and my husband is the first time cruisers. It was such a relaxing vacation and the boat was beautiful. The only thing I didn't like was our stateroom smells like wet carpet through out our entire trip. But other then that. I hope to go again on the Sky or Norwegian in General.

This was my 8th cruise... by Lisak76

Sail date: /
Ship: Norwegian Sky

This was my 8th cruise but 1st time with Norwegian and the Sky was no disappointment at all. I was a little worried due to mixed reviews but we had an amazing time! I would definitely do this cruise again if it wasn't out of Miami because it was such a long drive. The staff was fantastic and was always right there waiting on you. Lots of activities to keep you busy. Free drinks were definitely not weak like I expected. I had an absolute blast. If you are debating whether to do this cruise, just do it. You won't be disappointed.

Never again! by jshahinian

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Norwegian Sky / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

The communication on this ship was very bad. We didn't receive the itinerary for the following day until the night before so that didn't leave much time for planning with others. Also, there were no lists of the common items on the ship like where the guest services were, what restaurants the all inclusive included, etc. We ate at the cafe every day and the food was so tasteless and gave us stomach aches each night. The breakfast was the only good thing and we stuck to pastries, bagels and fruit.

We were on the "4 day, 3 night" but technically it was 3 day, 3 night because the ship was back at the Miami port at 8:00 am the 4th day and we had to be gone be 9:00 am.

We had two days on islands; one day per island. One is their private island and one is a public island (Nassau). We were going to have rainy weather on one of the two days so Norwegian decided to switch the days we were going to be at the islands where we would have good weather on their private island and the rainy weather at Nassau. This was a horrible idea because their private island is a strip of land that only consists of a beach and their food. Nassau had all the excursions we wanted to do including parasailing and Atlantis. The weather was so miserable that we walked around (grumpy) through the stores then went back to the ship. Too windy for the parasailing and too rainy to go to Atlantis on the other end of the island.

There was also a storm the entire way back to Miami. There TWO breaches, that I know of, on the ship where water was gushing into a restaurant on the ship. Not something you want to see on your first cruise.

I will never do it again and definitely not with Norwegian.

First cruise, great time by fuchsia977

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Sky / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

We did a food tour in Nassau that was the major highlight--this was booked through another company and not the cruiseline. I would recommend the cruiseline offer such excursions as it was a great way to see and experience real local culture. We didn't get to go to Great Stirrup Cay due to bad weather, but our excursion (this time booked through NCL) to Blue Lagoon Island more than made up for it. We loved the protected shallow waters and dolphin encounters. Freeport was a bust because of a flopped tour (again booked through another company), so we would recommend either sticking with the cruiseline excursions or doing some thorough research on other options. Food (always a 3-course meal!), drinks (unlimited!), and entertainment (VIP Band and comic Vince Acevedo) on the ship were excellent. My husband and I got a balcony room and can't imagine anything else--being able to sit on our own "private deck" was relaxing. We much preferred hearing the ruckus on the upper decks from a distance and enjoying our mojitos in relative quiet. Would cruise with Norwegian again.

i loved not having to pay for anything when we were done. Drink package was great! Can't think of a better way to spend 4 days on "Spring Break".  Our cabin was great and entertainment for a small ship was also top notch.

Great First Cruise! by Jes10801

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Sky / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

We were invited on this cruise by another couple. I had never been on a cruise before, but my boyfriend had been on one over 10 years ago. Having nothing to compare it to, I thought this cruise was great! The ship was smaller than others that we saw, but other than a windy first night, that wasn't really noticeable. Boarding was very easy. Having your drinks included in the fare is great for the price, convenient, and prevents the shock at the end of the trip when you get your bill! While there was often a short wait for drinks, you never waited more than a few minutes, which was a pleasant surprise considering everyone's drinks were included. (Be sure to try a Miami Vice!)  Our stateroom was "fine" - we did get one with a window, but not a balcony. Upon boarding, we were told our stateroom was ready and to expect our luggage to arrive in about 2 hours. We each kept a backpack of necessities with us. When we arrived at the stateroom, it seemed...half-ready. No towel animal (no big deal), the tent with the stewards name was tossed on a shelf, no waters (which we initially didn't realize should have been there) and a pair of shoes and dirty socks were still in the drawers, but the bed was made including a plastic piece to toss your luggage on. We tossed our backpacks in the room, unpacked a bit, and left in search of sunshine. When we came back, the shoes and dirty socks were gone and the tent was on the bed. How they knew those shoes needed to go and the other shoes we had tossed in the room didn't need to go is a bit of a mystery. Maybe the person came back? We didn't see our Steward Sandro until the last night. We never got any beach towels (the couple we traveled with did). Overall, probably below average.  The complimentary food is average. We typically used the buffets out of convenience. The food is good, but nothing fantastic. I was surprised by how few seafood options there were. The buffets are nice for breakfast because breakfast and mimosas on the back deck is picturesque. We did go to the Palace once for dinner and it was slightly above average. We went to Cagney's the last night (it was Easter and my birthday) and it was PHENOMENAL. Our server was Bosco and he could not have made our experience any better. I don't know what he's getting paid, but it's not enough. He made me feel very special once he found out it was my birthday, he honored my request that they NOT sing, and the guy literally cut my steak for me. One of the best parts of the whole cruise.  Due to the weather, we only stopped at Nassau and did not leave that port for Great Stirrup Cay. Disappointing, yes, but safety first and I understood. We went to a different beach the next day at Nassau and it was almost like you were at a different stop anyway! The downside is that you would have had free drinks and tacos at the private island, because we stayed at Nassau, that was an additional day where you had to pay at restaurants and for drinks unless you chose to stay on the boat. Overall, safety is definitely the priority so I have no complaints with us staying especially considering the high winds and anticipated 9 foot swells.  The onboard events were great! Some of my favorites were Bandaoke, White Hot Party, Piano Bar at Captain Cooks, Perfect Couple Game Show, the Casino, and the gift shop (be sure to go to the tasting and try Sheridans!). We had some photographs taken in addition to the ones they take of you boarding and coming off the ship each day. When we went to the gallery, we had 7-8 pictures. I wanted 5 of them at about $20 each. My boyfriend asked one of the staff if that was a firm price. After some back and forth negotiations, he offered to pay $50 and give her $10 cash. She tried to say the machines only allow $20 increments (maybe that's true, but I doubt it). They finally agreed to $60. When he went to pay, he handed her $60 cash. She then asked for his room key and he asked why she needed it and she kind of stumbled on an answer and it quickly became obvious she was going to charge an additional $60 to the room. He finally told her if she was going to charge the transaction to the room, he would need his $60 cash back. She was very obviously unhappy about this, took the cash out of her back pocket and slammed it on the counter. We probably should have known better than to use cash when everything can be charged, but it was obviously she was trying to make an extra $60 off of us. I'm not sure if she thought we wouldn't notice, but neither of us appreciated that. (Her name was Melissa, by the way. We were so untrusting of the transaction that we made sure to keep the receipt and it had her name on it).  Overall, this was a great experience and a great first cruise. I definitely hope to take more cruises in the future and would definitely be open to using Norwegian again!
