Review summary

Well first of all I didn't get to go on my trip

I missed my first year anniversary with my husband because of the staff stupidity I call and ask if I didn't my passport as I am a us citizen what other paper work I could take to travel they told me to bring my birth certificate and drivers license

I did exactly that, but when I got to the port it was a different story I went thru hell. I spent my anniversary alone without my husband, they have no sympathy no heart

And when my husband was coming back he spoke to the tsa officers they told him their not reason for them not to let me on the ship .I could've travel with the document I had

They don't even want to refund me my money

It was my first time on a cruise they ruined that experience for me

The worse

Never again 😡😠😡😠

Birth certificate and DL is a no no to Cuba. All of the required documentation is listed on the NCL website. Even if you Google any website will tell you that Cuba requires a passport. Stupidity does not warrant a bad review. I can not believe how many reviews I see where the passenger is the problem yet they freak out because they didn't follow procedure.

As long as you're a US citizen and you have the correct documents you can. She's not responding to any questions but it sounds like the op didn't have the correct documents.

so can u use the documents only

I feel passports are a necessity today when traveling. When we arrived in Cuba it was necessary to have your passport and tourist visa and ship card just to get through Cuban customs to enter Havana. Each time you go back to the ship while in Havana the Cuban customs requires you to show your passport every time. It did not cause any inconvenience at however you had to have a passport. So sorry this happened to you.

Ha! ha! 😂😂

Forget the passport...I'd be getting myself a new husband.

CapBlacklashes    7 years ago

So your husband went on the cruise without you???? And it was your anniversary???? Something isn't right. Why didn't he stay with you???

balconyfor3    7 years ago

I feel a passport is necessary !

Katievp    7 years ago

I don't believe anyone said anything about not being able to afford one.

martyarmi    7 years ago

yes, if you can afford a cruise, you can affird a passport. they are easy to get and are good fot 10 yrs.

rgbenning    7 years ago

Why does anyone insist on leaving North America without a passport! It never ceases to amaze me that anyone would take the chance. Spend the money and get a passport!

sjohnson44    7 years ago

and she's saying they had no sympathy and no heart...why should they?? when clearly yourhubby didn't have any either...and left you!

sjohnson44    7 years ago

OMG! Forget passport...birth certificate...booking in maiden, married name...My hubby and I are stuck at "did the husband really go without her"?? say it ain't so!

balconyfor3    7 years ago

Absolutly right! But a passeport really helps , with that you can go anywere ! !!

willwork4cruz    7 years ago

If she booked with her married surname then a passport in her maiden name would not have worked either. It's not about having a passport, it's about learning the rules and not just listening to what someone thinks would work. Find the rules printed on something official.

Katievp    7 years ago

Hopefully she left the chat to go file divorce since he went on an anniversary cruise without his wife. Orrrr, it's a fake post.

jallaway    7 years ago

VA-NESSA!  Everybody over on Shipmates wants to know what happened!

KeithFreeman    7 years ago

As usual this person will never post again to tell us what really happened. Probably did have a copy of her birth certificate or something...

Avery4578    7 years ago

First year anniversary and I am thinking her birth certificate is in her maiden name...she would need to bring marriage certificate.

balconyfor3    7 years ago

Looks like there will be a discussion in this couple!!!😨😨

nancy5654    7 years ago

Always have a passport. No worries then.

Katievp    7 years ago

Oh my Lord!! He went without you!!!???

lab341    7 years ago

Not a very smart husband, happy wife, happy life! Translation: My husband would be bleeding if he thought he was going without me.

lab341    7 years ago

Curious how her husband got on board. Did he have a passport or Visa?

TNTGreen    7 years ago

@jbuckley If it wasn't a cruise to Cuba it could have also been she could of been a US citizen currently but born elsewhere (non US) and if her birth certificate let's just say was from Greece that wouldn't work.

TNTGreen    7 years ago

Sounds like you had a photo copy of either your birth certificate or possibly a copy of your drivers license but that is your responsibility to make sure you have proper cruise documents. It tells you clearly on every cruise line website that the birth certificate must be the original or certified copy. If you didn't follow that that's on you and not the cruise line. Your beef should be with your "husband" that decided to cruise without you on your first wedding anniversary. Probably wouldn't be a second if I was you.

baghdadbridget    7 years ago

Don't know all the details but what kind of husband would go without you?

willwork4cruz    7 years ago

Assuming this story is true there must have been something wrong with her documents. My guess is that it was a Xerox copy of a birth certificate and not an original or certified copy. I have been on 13 cruises without a passport. Obviously there is more to the story. If she brought a copy of a passport she couldn't get on either. I can't believe her husband left without her, especially on their anniversary.

martyarmi    7 years ago

It is easy. I have said in this forum before, always have the passport. This and a number of other things that could happen is why ypu must always have your passport on any cruise. You don't have to but your taking a chance.

jbuckley    7 years ago

I don't understand, but I'm so sorry that happend. I have been on two NCL cruises and had no trouble traveling with only a DL and birth certificate. Maybe it was the policy of one of the ports you were visiting. I don't think the Bahamas would be a problem. If it was a cruise to Cuba , they probably require a passport. Either way they should have made that clear at the time of booking.

DiViCWall    7 years ago

Could you provide more details please. To help make sure this does not happen to anyone else.

jallaway    7 years ago

Vanessa, I don't understand what happened here. Why wouldn't they let you board with a birth certificate and ID?
