I’m mostly loyal to NCL. We do not like the new design and when cruising in NCL we will stay away from this new class of ships. The Prima is beautiful, but impractical in my opinion.
Embarkation

Not too bad. We got to the port a little before our scheduled time. Wasn’t the most efficient embarkation, but it wasn’t bad.

Food and Dining

MDR- I was actually excited about the menu change on the Prima. I thought the idea was less waste while also being able to execute the menu consistently ensuring better quality meals. I will say the coconut shrimp and the mushroom soup are both very good and their quality remain consistent throughout the cruise. The Beef Wellington was very good and rare on the first night, by the third night we requested it rare and were asked if medium would be okay, but it arrived well done. Some nights the risotto was crunchy, the rotisserie chicken was a huge portion, but dry. I thought the pork chops were over cooked. They did offer a Christmas dinner of turkey and stuffing and that was surprisingly good. By the end of the cruise nothing excited us in the MDR anymore.
The Local- best chicken wings on any cruise ship! Soups were always good and the salads were just enough for a lunch portion.
Indulge Food Hall- I love this BUT it’s always so so crowded. We would get there an hour early just to get a table . The tuna tartar and the pad Thai were our favorites. I wish they offered the nann bread at lunch. Because I enjoyed the Indian meats everyday.
Cagneys- this is extremely unfortunate. We eat at Cagneys every cruise. Our whole family looks forward to this meal. While eating my wedge salad I bit into what I thought was an over cooked piece of bacon. After trying to chew it I realized something was wrong and I spit out a half inch piece of glass! I immediately alerted our server who took the piece of glass to the manager. I explained that I was worried it damaged my grown because something now felt like sand in my mouth and I wasn’t sure if it was my tooth or more glass. I told them I wanted the piece of glass back and they said they had already turned it over to security. I politely told them that I would not be leaving without that piece of glass and I’m so glad I did. Security came to our table and we went outside so we didn’t disturb the other diners (my request). I asked where the piece of Halas’s was and I was told it was just a small piece of glass only measuring 1.5 mm. I demanded that they bring it to me immediately before I lost my patience. By the time they did and I filled out my incident report my steak had been served and had been sitting so long at he entire rest of our party had finished eating. The didn’t charge us for the up charge items we ordered but did use all of my dining credits on the dinner. I was extremely disappointed with the way the situation was handled and didn’t feel like thi was properly compensated.
Onboard Activities
3 out of 5
We were plagued with bad weather on this trip and had a lot more sea days than anticipated. They did their best to try and keep us entertained by adding more activities to what should have been port days. This unfortunately overworked an already overworked staff and it became obvious that they were annoyed as much as the passengers. The main pool deck is way too small and the 3 story rqce track keeps a lot of the pool deck in the shade. You had to be on the pool deck before 7am to get a chair. So many people reserving chairs and not being there for hours and nobody controlling it.
Entertainment
4 out of 5
Because everything was already sold out on the app we had to go to the theatre to make all our reservations. I just don’t understand if there are still reservations available why it’s sold out on the app and you have to spend an hour in line as soon as you get on the ship
Service and Staff

Our room steward was amazing. We had three cabins with 8 guest total and she always greeted all of us by name. This was the first cruise we have been on with the reduced service. She asked us if we preferred morning or afternoon cleaning on the first day. We opted for the morning cleaning and didn’t mind not having turn down service.
Ship Quality
4 out of 5
The ship is beautiful, but for a brand new ship it is already showing signs of wear. I noticed several of the barstools on the pool deck already torn and some completely broken (caution tape across them) and the mini golf wasn’t working. We didn’t like the new layout of the ship. The common areas were too small. People waited in line for over an hour for some entertainment.
Cabin / Stateroom

Beautiful cabin. More spacious than most balcony cabins I’ve had in the past. Especially appreciate the shower size!
Ship tip
It’s worth it to set an alarm to book activities and dining as soon as you are eligible!
This was the only port I didn’t prebook an excursion. Because we were so sick of being on the ship we just got off and went to Margaritaville. Something we usually wouldn’t do but we just needed to be off the boat for a bit.
Some of these comments about the Prima is asinine. I have been on her twice and loved it. I have never seen anyone standing in any line for an hour, only an ill informed person would make such a comment. I was so busy having the best time that I didn’t have time to nit pick and look for faults to make negative statements and reports. Please do your research before you spend your $$ on something you are not used to or are prepared for. Stick to what you can handle.
We took the Prima last February out of Galveston. We had just completed an 11 day on the NCL Pearl in the Caribbean in a full suite in January. Loved the Pearl! Not crazy about the Prima. In fact, it is our least favorite of the NCL ships. It was beautifully decorated, but so cut up and the acoustics were horrible... all the live music in the lounges was screechingly loud. I will say that their Mexican specialty restaurant was amazing!!
