Review summary

I believe this cruise would have been much more enjoyable if the weather would've cooperated.

We were unlucky to experience rainy, cloudy & foggy days while touring our first time in Alaska.  The cruise itself was pretty good and we had a great time, which we always make fun out of every one we take.  Our highlight was in Juneau where we did get to see whales, however, no breaching and beautiful Mendenhall Glacier.  Again, if the weather had been better we could have seen more of Alaska's beauty.  The tours we took in Ketchikan and Skagway were so, so since, again, the weather was bad and unable to see more critters other than a few eagles off into the distance.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
We've had better on other lines. Dissapointed that the buffet was closed during off times since we came back from a tour late, hungry and too early for dinner. Also, Tepenaki restaurant was good but lacked entertainment and not enough vegetables served.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
Liked the wine & martini tastings, and for the first time, joined in with the art auction. My husband won the free champagne and artwork for guessing the closest price to the Picaso.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
Theater productions okay, but really liked the singer/guitarist, Randon who performed in the lounges. He was really good!

Children's Programs

Didn't use, but noticed a lot of kids on this cruise.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Mickey, our cabin steward was always right there for any of our needs and had our cabin always spiffy. However, we tried to abide by the NCL towel request and hung our towels up, but Mickey always gave us clean ones.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
It was an old, smaller ship but our cabin was great.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
The shower temperature was tricky but the bed was comfortable so we slept well. Good storage.

Ship tip

If you're an avid cruiser, don't expect the Norweigan Jewell to match their amenities. Nice to not have to dress up this time, but this ship was just average. However, when we took the NCL Pride of America in Hawai a few years back, it was great.
