Review summary

Just got back today from being on the NCL Escape to Florida and the Bahamas. We had a great time on this ship! First, the wait at the NYC terminal was relatively painless. O different than going through TSA at the airport. Was allowed on the ship around 11:30 am and our rooms were ready around 1:30. There have been a lot of comments about hidden fees, so of course, I was on the lookout for these hidden fees! When you are in port and you have the unlimited drink package, you are charged the local tax on each of these drinks. We are talking less than $1.50 per drink. Once out to sea, no more charges. There are no other hidden fees. You buy something, you’re charged! But, buyer beware on some of these jewelry sales! They have at the end of the cruise watch deals, one is Caribbean Joe watches They are 2 for $40.00. Sounds good, right? They sell at Walmart for $19.97. The other buyer beware: the art auctions. I bought a art piece, was told it was going to be $300.00..... when I went to pick up the paperwork the next morning, they charged me $495.00. When I questioned this, I was more or less told I had buyers remorse and was basically full of you know what. Needless to say, the order was cancelled and this art curator got an earful. Things to do: a million! The shows are really good, especially the Brat Pack and After Midnight. There are a couple other shows you can pay to see, which we did not do. Must do: 80’s night and White Party (Norwegian night out) all up at Spice H2O. Ports: was absolutely amazed at how well organized NCL is on this. We got on and off the ship so easily! It was great. Book your excursions early though as they do book up. Swimming with the Stingrays on The NCL was really good and reasonable. Staff on the ship and island go above and beyond to make everything perfect for you! Two more things. (1) specialty restaurants. Not sure if we had a bad night because the reviews are usually all good, but was not impressed with Carney’s. The wait staff tried to rush you to eat and take your plate when you aren’t even done! I had the prime rib, and it was very tough. We did go to La Cucina and the reviews were so-so, but we found it to be excellent from the food, presentation, taste and service. We also did Bayamo, and wouldn’t go again. This restaurant has an upcharge if $10.00 per person. O’Sheehans was really good - typical pub type food and the Garden Cafe also was good. Lunch tended to be repetitious, but lots of choices (2) gratuity. From what we know from being told, it aapears the gratuity that you pay each day, which is $14.50 pp, we believe is split up amongst a whole host of staff from servers to dishwashers with that being said, these folks work really hard, long hours for days on end. So, when someone goes a little bit above for you, slip them a buck or two. Would we go again? Yup. Booked a 14 day cruise on the ship and bought the Cruisenext Double Up promo!! Hope you all have a great trip on the Escape!
