Review summary

NCL has become my favorite cruise line due to its casual atmosphere, high quality entertainment and freestyle dining arrangement.  The Breakaway is a large ship but never seemed overcrowded although it was a spring break week and pretty full.  Interior hall cabins seem claustrophobic.  Glad I had an ocean view.  Housekeeping surprisingly poorer than expected for such a new and classy ship.  Room not fully cleaned and was smelly when I first entered and that was not rectified later on.  During the course of the week I encountered several ladies rooms that were dirty/smelly/leaky even during slow times.  Also several latches/hinges broken!  Shouldn't the cleaning staff report broken items to the maintenance staff?  Worst thing was the layout of the ship with the Casino in the middle dominating 2 floors and causing horrible cigarette smoke smell throughout that area.  However, despite these small failings it was a great trip.

Small but we paid a great price so ok. Very disappointed with the cleanliness.

Ship tip

There are many places to eat, new to NCL travelers from smaller ships and from other cruise lines as well as cruising newbies. Check out their hours, prices, fare, etc. and choose what works for you. The dining plan can be a huge value if you plan it right for your preferences.

The housekeeping staff has the responsibility of cleaning up for 4000 passengers, and can you imagine the amount of time they have in order to do this during turn around between the morning disembarking and that four pm departure?? That's a lot of toilets to clean!! I have never had any problems with housekeeping.☺

Sailed on the Breakaway February 16-23, 2014. The casino was plopped on the deck where all the smoke was just horrible going into my lungs. I wish there were some way to have a smoking and none smoking deck, but that is wishful thinking. There are many places to smoke on any ship. Balcony cabins ars great and no smoking allowed. Wish this happened yrs ago. Either we cruise or not, things might change or not.

I do agree, the placement of the casino is very very poor. The smoke is bad and you have a lot of kids passing through to get from end of the ship to the other.
