Review summary

I booked Breakaway despite the so-so reviews.  Boarding was simple.  In general everyone heads to the Buffet.  It was decent.  Balcony room was okay- small but modern.  Nice Bathroom free soap & shampoo.  Where I was extremely disappointed was the pool area.  There were two pools- One for adult where the majority of the time it was filled with 20 and 30 year olds drinking, morning till night.  The other kiddy pool- filled with parents and kids- underneath the slides.  The pool deck was very industrial looking- did not have an open feel.  Lounging chairs were on 3 different decks FAR from the pool.  The 3 main shows were very good (Rock of Ages, Burn the Floor, Cirque). The comedy shows not so much.  My other big issue was the LONG wait for food.  The dining rooms Savor,Taste, and Manhattan- were modern  but the service at times is rushed and impersonal and the wait for dessert after dinner was like 30 minutes.   The pay restaurants were okay- but it was disappointing that they DO NOT enforce the dress code.  I paid $30 for a higher end dinner at Cagney's and dressed appropriately - only to see people across from me in tee shirts and SLIPPERS..(steak at Cagneys does not compare to the Steak at Royal Carribean's CHOPs). The best place on this ship is Osheehan's - where people hang around all week to eat (free) and participate in the game shows.  They do NOT have enough seats for the people who want to partake in the activities.  A one time charge of $7.95 for room delivery- but continental breakfast has no charge- SILLY RULE.  Bermuda is a pretty and safe island.  Cruise excursions are not necessary.  The other area that was a let down was- NO PROMENADE, to walk around in during the evenings.  I found myself missing the older ship I went on last year- Explorer of the Seas- which had a nice Latin Lounge, 24 hour Pizza, ice cream...(but now I think it was replaced by Freedom of the Seas - 5 nights to Bermuda.   Oh- they do have a private a $$ Pay pool for adults- I never saw it it was hidden behind a wall.  NOT GOOD.   I hope that cruising does not go the way of NCL- I do like the option of a few private restaurants; but they go overboard.  They do not enforce their own rules and the misbehaved kids in the dining rooms-  drove a lot of people crazy.  I am sorry Breakaway- i wanted to LUV you - but I doubt very highly I will return.  Oh... horrible souvenir shop - hardly anything to peruse....

Ship tip

Visit all the free dining rooms. In general menus are the same but they do change up a few items. If you go during peak hours be prepared to wait at least 20 minutes for a table. Breakfast service is very good in the dining rooms- better breakfast than the buffet.
