Nice to try a different cruise line, but perhaps we’re not quite ready to give up on Royal Caribbean just yet

Food and Dining

I’d stress that we’ve previously only sailed with Royal Caribbean so that’s what I’m comparing MSC against. We were a party of 3 cramped on a table for 2 in the evening in the MDR. Food was always tasty, but never hot and the portions were tiny. Plenty of still spring water for the table (we had a drinks package but I think the spring water was free to all), but it was never chilled. We had to ask for ice, which they kindly brought in a massive ice bucket, but the table was too small for it to stay, so I had to spoon it into our glasses. Waiters were friendly and efficient. The merlot in the MDR was delicious!
Buffet choice was limited in my opinion, but there was always a table and it was clean and tidy every time we went.
Onboard Activities

Our son tried the (extra charge) racing simulators. One of the two was brilliant. The other was rather battered and not so much fun. He did enjoy the first one so much he went back (but as I say, the 2nd time, in the different machine was not so good).
Entertainment

We paid for one of the Carousel productions in advance which saved us about £6 a ticket I think, rather than paying on the ship. You got a seat for the show (about 30 to 35 mins long I’d say) and your choice of one of about five different cocktails. It was the most visually spectacular show: but I have absolutely no idea what it was all about! We all enjoyed it though
We also watched the Beatles tribute act. Great voices.
Service and Staff

They were all pleasant and efficient. Not in your face or over the top. We never met our room attendant.
Ship Quality

Lots and lots and lots of gleaming reflective surfaces!

Ship tip
Buy as much as you can in terms of drinks packages or shows on land as it’ll likely cost you a lot more to buy it on the ship
