MSC Mediterranean Cruise

Sail Date: June 02, 2012

Reviewed: 4 years ago

Traveled As: Family w/older children

Room Type: Suite

The ship was a smaller ship, and was in good shape. We have taken 15+ cruises and this was the worst. The ship advertised 24 hr coffee tea and water and did not have it. You would return from port and not be able to find a snack, not even a cookie or sandwich. The quality of the food was not up to the standards of any of the American cruise lines. For an Italian line, Costa has much better service and amenities. We didn't want to cruise Europe with a rock climbing wall or water slide, so we payed more for this line, but we had hoped for food and pleasantries.

Pros: The itenanry

Cons: The cruise line

Recommends MSC Sinfonia? No.

Food and Dining
The wait staff was very nice but the quality of the food was poor.
Entertainment is not a large draw for us, however the tours in port could have been better. We went on a shopping tour in Medina Tunis only to spend half of our time in the selected vendors giving us their sales pitches. Almost as though we were hijacked and not allowed to leave. Then in Genoa, we booked a 58 euro per person tour to Portifino only to find out the ship would stop there later in the day, why the Travel Staff on ship didn't tell me when I was shelling over my 238 euros for our family was very aggravating, plus you would have to return to the ship and then pay an additional $13 euro per person to take the shuttle into port. The cost of the shuttle from the boat into town was always at least twice as much as round trip taxi fare. We would make sure we eat in town knowing there would not be food on the ship when we returned.
Service and Staff
Ship Quality
It was a smaller ship that we selected to get into the smaller ports. The ship was in good shape and the cabins were very nice.
