Review summary

Although having cruised several times before, I had never heard of MSC and was a bit skeptical. No more - it was awesome! Everything was spotlessly clean, staff was very friendly, and there was a variety of activities. Food was tasty - not the best/fanciest we've ever had on a cruise, but certainly tasty and lots of choices. It was fun to be "at sea" on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
Food was tasty, but nothing spectacular. Always plenty of choices. Buffet was convenient, though sometimes crowded. We love dressing up for seated dinners at assigned times, and this worked well on MSC Poesia. Had lunch one day in the sushi speciality restaurant - very good and reasonable. The kids' drink coupon book ($25 for 10) was a great way for our teens to have virgin cocktails every day!

Entertainment

5 out of 5
Nice variety, although several activities took place at exactly the same time while other times had nothing scheduled. Entertainment team and performers were outstanding! A special memory for our family was singing as part of the "passenger choir" at Christmas Eve mass on the main stage of the theater.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Everyone very friendly. Attentive, but not overly so. Near the end of the trip, staff was a bit over the top with "reminding" us to complete our satisfaction survey with lots of "excellent" ratings.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Every area was always clean! Easy to find your way around the ship, plenty of room for everything. Would have been nice if "promenade" (hardwood flooring) deck went all the way around the ship so we could run laps, but made it work with back and forth.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Very nice. We had 2 adjacent balcony cabins for our family of 2 adults and 2 teens. Cabin steward opened the balcony divider so we had a double-balcony and easy/private access between rooms. Mattresses seem to be aging, but okay. Size of cabin and bathroom were very good, lots of storage space.

Pros: itinerary, cleanliness, dress-up nights

Cons: every announcement done in 5 languages
