Review summary

After cruising 60 times with other cruise lines we were a little bit leery with MSC as reviews were not very positive. Contrary we agree that it was a wonderful ship with a lot of positives in its favor provided they correct some minor things that fall short of receiving a "The Best' status. Below are some of our comments. Note: we had the opportunity of chatting with the Cruise Director Anne and the Assistant Cruise Director Tyler and went over most of the areas that we suggest addressing. They were most gracious and attentive to our comments, we hope they implement them.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
Food quality is very good with excellent desserts (other Italian ships don't offer good desserts}. Was confirmed on 1st seating but upon arrival was informed that we were moved to 2nd seating. This fixed after a long line to talk with the Maitre-D. The squid was tender with a wonderful seasoning, the fish well cooked, and the red meats as well.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
Entertainment crew got a lot of passengers on the games and activities that are normally provided by the Crew. However the following needs addressing immediately: Need to add a steel band on deck, need to improve the theater shows to a Vegas Style Show the shows provided fall very short of a desirable presentation. Dancers were good but the theme was poor. Aerial part of show was superb, shows lasted between 35 to 40 minutes. In general this needs to be address soon and improve accordingly. The Latin band "Mambo Kings" was superb but stopped playing at midnight. The bands in the Zebra room fall short of a ball room quality band that can play multiple melodies such as chacha, rumba, polka, pasodoble, merengue, swing, jive, etc (maybe take a look at the Trincales Group that plays on the Costa Atlantica). In general we were very disappointed that the Pallidades room was used for the activities stopping the dancing music for and hour every night leaving only 2 to 3 hrs for dancing.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
It takes them some time to accept you and getting used to greetings. We made some friends that worked as Waiters (Aida, Vermiliya), dining room personnel was great and very well train in the art of taking care of serving a table (Branimir). Maitre-D never visited our table. Captain is seen often and greets a plus as others are never seen. There is a young man that cleans in the Pigalle Area that was very friendly once we started greeting him. He took some wonderful pictures of us with our camera (ssshhh they look better that the ones taken by the Photography Team)

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Built in 2008 is well maintained. Cabins are neat and well kept, common areas are very clean, dinning room very hygienic, decoration is extremely good. has poor access from front to back as floor do not connect through. But once you get used to the layout its fairly easy to access just a long walk (needed to burn calories).

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Cabin stewards do a great job in maintaining cabins clean and updated. Every item on the cabin was functional and in good order. A/C worked very well maintaining a cool room (other ships this has been a problem).

Pros: Ports of Call

Cons: Entertainment

Recommends MSC Poesia? No.
