Service is a word the staff doesn't know

Sail Date: January 01, 2007

Traveled As: Couple

Room Type: Balcony

If this was our only experience cruising, we would never cruise again. The price seemed good but, in reality, the cruise was over priced. I don't cruise to be hasseled for everyting. We did enjoy the ports of call. The excursions left a lot to be desired. The descriptions of the trips were sketchy. We were taken places to shop for half the time, then taken to another place for the canopy tour which is what we signed up for.

Pros: Nice balcony/suite room

Cons: Bad food and poor service

Recommends MSC Lirica? No.

Service and Staff
We were never asked if we would like something to drink while sunning on the pool deck. I had to go to the bar and ask for one. There was no cabin steward only a housekeeping staff. The attitude of the ship is only give service when something is asked for. Our soap (small motel size) was only replenished when we called for more (seven days into the cruise).
Ship Quality
Grill and Pizza place were just part of the deck area
Cabin / Stateroom
We did like the balcony/suite
Food and Dining
The fish was the only good food served. The beef had a different taste to it. You were never asked how you wanted it cooked, it just came overcooked. Beef, pork and lamb were dry. Vegetables were way overcooked. The potato of the day was usually boiled with no seasoning. The staff at dinner was overworked and completely disorganized. We had to ask for water, refills of water and coffee. When a waiter was summoned for a water refill, he would only refill that person's water, leaving the rest of the glasses at the table empty. The best thing I can say about the buffet is the selection was poor and the food terrible.
Entertainment
Very amateur
