Review summary

The ship is beautiful, food was delicious and the entertainment was amazing. BUT I will NEVER book with msc again. They were beyond rude the entire time and i couldn't wait to get off. If you don't have 20s in your hand to tip them, they won't even remeber your name. Nobody spoke English and if they did their accent was so strong you still didn't understand. The service flat out sucked 👊👊

Thanks for sharing your cruise.

Hi there fellow cruiser, I am very happy that your experiences with the Divina were great, lucky you! In regards to your biased and seeming arrogant reply to a simple review I will state the following. In the service industry you are rewarded by monetary acknowledgement for great service. To explain this that means the service must be great prior to being rewarded with extra gratuities. When the service is rude, uncaring, or just blatently poor the extra show of appreciation leaves the table and you are left with whatever the company does with the daily imposed gratuities. I for one can relate to this cruisers review and my family is the most easy going, social, and friendly families you'd ever meet and we found that most not all tho on this ship just could care less about service or customer service as a whole. We all have different experiences everywhere, reviews are meant to help others make informed decisions after reading multiple from the good to the bad. I will say after my experience on this ship and with your personality you defintely belong on the Divina and yes we will continue to sail with MSC's competition as the experiences sailing over a dozen times with them has never left me to leave a poor review in any way shape or form. Hope all your future travels are great!

ShipMate Friends, always consider the source for a 1-star review. We've sailed with MSC 5 times. 3 of those were on the Divina with one cruise being 2-weeks back to back. The International flavor of the crew staff, and their genuine attempt at English, is unique and one of the many things that makes MSC Cruises special. It's clear by your remarks that you have not traveled much. If you decide on another cruise perhaps Carnival will be more to your liking? ... Lastly, what exactly is wrong with showing someone remuneration in appreciate for their hard work? Are you "entitled" to be waited on without showing gratitude? ... Like someone in an earlier review mentioned, "You get treated the way you treat people." ... Best of luck in your future travels. And thanks for not cruising with MSC again. Would hate to run into you onboard.

I will second the service portion being bad. I reviewed it 3 stars and was attacked by keyboard warriors too for stating the fact that the service on the ship is poor. Why should I pay extra tips to get familiar and basic treatment at any venue. I got your back with the service part because it needs a great deal of work.

Sorry to read about the bad service. I will be in Jan. on the Divina. We are hoping that this will not be an issue any more. We also had some strange experiences on more pricier cruises like with royal being rude to us as well. But that was just one person, not the whole staff. (Maybe a bad day at the end of a long long contract...) So we will cruise with them again because the overall experience is really nice. So hopefully it will be the same with MSC. It will be the first cruise with them since a few years. Curious about how they improved (hopefully)😉😉 many happy cruises to everyone😃

Katej14, you may have hit the nail on the head... When I think back it did seem there were a lot of trainees on the Divina in early November, maybe that was a prelude to some experienced staff moving across to the Seaside this month and explains why some folks have been dissatisfied with the service they received.

katej14    6 years ago

When we were on in May there were definitely a few staff that were rude, but the majority were great. Maybe they moved the best staff to the Seaside? I know a lot switched over.

Ralbert, no idea what that is supposed to mean. MSC actually made a pleasant change as NCL, RCCL & CCL have been getting extremely similar and ‘dumbing down’ over the past year or two, especially out of Florida (we’ve done at least a dozen cruises with those firms over the last year or two). On our cruise MSC seemed to be a step up in every category except the food, especially in terms of the shows & the smartness and demeanour of the guests. Maybe we were just lucky?

Went on the Divina in july ! Everything was fine except the buffet was a little bit chaotic! Nothing to fuss about! Your vacation is what you make of it !

you people are funny

Maybe you should try a coorporation company in liew of a family company. Sometimes a simple hello or excuse me goes a long long way in perception. Happy Cruising!!

Maybe it’s an Atlantic thing? We’re from the UK and often holiday in Spain & Italy so we’re perhaps far more used to the language issues. Sometimes in Italy communication is all done by pointing and gestures. We don’t find the Europeans rude either but perhaps that’s a familiarity & perception thing. We weren’t crazy about the buffet either but to be fair we never are on any ship. I hope you US folks were just unlucky on that one occasion and it isn’t something that’s going to put us all off MSC.

Just got off Divina. Staff works very hard to accommodate the passangers. We found that majority of passangers were Europeans and are very rude. Ship was beautiful and food got better as week progressed. Buffet is utter chaos. After e days we gave up and went to dining room for breakfast. P.S. this was our 12th cruise. Probably our last with MSC.

Why do you care

boldpro    6 years ago

Well it sounds like you had a good experience and when you go on an Italian ship sometimes the help do have issues with the language but that should never become an issue. There will always be someone to help. Also doesn't matter if you are in the yc or not your experiences should all be good

Lashawna, it surprises me too. We were on the Divina last month and found the service exceptional. We were slightly less impressed with the food but didn’t have significant language problems. We did find a fair number of wait and bar staff had poor English so we went back to ones we knew understood us once we had experienced difficulties. We thought the staff on the Divina had far better language skills than most ships as they seemed to have a much more cosmopolitan guest list. We tend to tip bar tenders frequently (only a dollar or two) and got exceptional service. Maybe they remembered us because our drinks were untypical but every time we went to the bar we were welcomed by name and met with a welcoming smile. (We only travelled regular class btw)
