Check the weather. Do not go except in cool months. Be prepared for crowds of tourists and harassing vendors everywhere. Lot’s of uneven walking surfaces and stone steps on and off of the ship. By all means see the GEM in Cairo.
Embarkation
3 out of 5
First 3 nights were in the Sheraton. Other friends on the same cruise began & ended at the Four Seasons. Short flight to Luxor & 40 minute flight to Luxor. At Giza we were given the option to return to the bus due to heat, but they failed to tell us where the bus was located. Contact phone # on daily newsletter lacked the first digit to call. We walked in 100 degree midday heat for 1/2 hour. They are lucky we were both in good health!
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
3 out of 5
There is only one restaurant. We felt the food was just fair. The ala carte burger and hot dog were not great. It was more about the quality of the meat. Fries are great.
Onboard Activities
2 out of 5
There was a limited amount of on board activity. We would have spent more time on the pool deck if there had been food & drinks served there.
Entertainment
2 out of 5
The pianist was just okay, but the other performers were not good
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
The staff was excellent! They were so eager to help at every turn.
Ship Quality
4 out of 5
Layout is good but wifi poor, particularly in the dining room and the coffee area on L2
Cabin / Stateroom
5 out of 5
Room was fantastic. Twice as large as the average. A nice sitting area, but furniture needs to be upgraded. Bathroom is large as well. Lot’s of closet space. Lighting could be better in the closet area.
Ship tip
Be prepared for lots of uneven ground and steps on the Nile cruise. Only plan in cool weather.
Aswan is so beautiful. It is so worthwhile to do the included excursions like the temple at Philael, the falluca ride and shopping is much easier here. I missed Abu Simbel due to an upset stomach, but heard it was amazing.
Mixed emotions about this one. The carriage ride to the temple was sad as the horses appear to be starving. The temple was crowded with tourists. It was the worst of the vendor experiences. They follow and harass.
Staff was very helpful getting us to the airport. I got pretty tired of the minimum of two invasion pat downs at each airport in Egypt. Guide had to argue with bomb security about my melatonin at the Luxor airport.
