Review summary

We first took a cruise on the Monarch of the Sea in 1996 and had such a wonderful time. We have cruised other ships since then, but really wanted to go back to the beginning by taking this cruise ship again. Unfortunately, time has not been good to the ship. The carpets were terribly stained. There was a lot of rust everywhere.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
Some of the food was very good, and some of it was pretty bad. The eggs were runny on several occasions. The ground beef for the burgers did not even taste like beef but some kind of processed food. The orange juice was watery every day like it was being purposely watered down to force individuals to buy "fresh squeezed" juice. Dinner times were not good making it necessary to go upstairs for food which was good sometimes and not good other times. The tea was good and the service of the waiters was excellent.

Entertainment

1 out of 5
There really were not enough options to meet the needs of everyone.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
All staff were very helpful and hardworking.

Ship Quality

1 out of 5
Again, Royal Caribbean is right in moving to decommission this ship. It is well past its prime.

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
Aging but overall acceptable.

Pros: The dining room staff and room staff work extremely hard.

Cons: The rugs were so stained and everything just looked worn. Sometimes the food was good; sometimes it was pretty bad. I had so been looking forward to this cruise and have to say, I was disappointed.
