Review summary

For us, there are 2 things that make a cruise. One is the staff and second is the food. Both hit home runs. We honestly can't say enough good things. The cruise stops were typical for a Caribbean cruise but we good and we enjoyed them.

Embarkation

I was amazed at how quick the process was.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

Flamingo Restaurant

5 out of 5

This is another spot I saw lots of complaints on. We ate their for 4 out of our 7 meals. The quality of the food and service was amazing. My only negative comment would be that the menu seems smaller. 2 nights the options were very light and we did Lido those nights so we had more side dish options.

Fahrenheit 555 Steakhouse

5 out of 5

I saw lots of people complaining about Fahrenheit 555 but our experience was fantastic. Our whole group of 7 felt it was the best meal we had on the ship.

Swirls

How can you go wrong here.

Chibang!

4 out of 5

It was just ok. With all the other options on the ship, I'd probably do something else next time I'm here.

Alchemy Bar

4 out of 5

The drinks were extremely good but the cups were small and filled to the top with ice.

Pizzeria del Capitano

5 out of 5

Hit the spot most nights. We very much enjoy pizza and icecream at the end of the night.

Bonsai Sushi

5 out of 5

We love doing this at least once per cruise.

Lido Marketplace

5 out of 5

We did Lido for almost every breakfast and it was exactly what we needed. The fruit is way better than here in Ontario. So fresh.

BlueIguana Cantina

5 out of 5

Amazing as always. I could eat there every day.

Guy's Burger Joint

5 out of 5

Only did it once but man it was great.

BOLT Ultimate Sea Coaster

Great to do once.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Everyone we came into contact with went above and beyond to make our trip special. Their hard work and dedication was very evident.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
We actually were not a fan of the ship itself. This was our 18th carnival cruise and I think we would prefer ships like the Horizon, Glory, Breeze and Sunshine. Would be go back on the Mardi Gras, absolutely but it wouldn't be one we would go out of our way to go back on.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
We knew the rooms were tight but the number of times I hit the side of my knees on the bed rail, was getting old by the end of the cruise. The toilet area was also very tight.

I was on the first Mardi Gra before she was the Mardi Gras. Empress of Canada was bought by Carnival and was renamed Mardi Gras. I sailed on her in 1964.
