Review summary
I planned this cruise for my husband's 50th birthday. My family had never been on a cruise, with the exception of myself, so this was their first experience. The port is close by and I thought the three night would be a good way for them to try cruising. It was a huge success, they are ready to go again!
I have read quite a few reviews, both good and bad, here are my observations. We have not been on the large, newer ships, so we do not have that as a point of reference, but we thoroughly enjoyed the Majesty of the Seas. The staff was great, they were so helpful and very welcoming, especially to my ten year old. Adrian and Tutu, our dining room servers, were fantastic. We had some okay meals and some fantastic ones in the dining room. The bartenders were attentive were extremely nice to my son, who was loving the virgin strawberry daqueris. I can't say enough nice things about the staff.
We did the Seahorse Sailing and Snokeling excursion booked through the ship, which gave us a chance to view Nassau and provided an opportunity for my son to really snorkel for the first time. I was glad we did that rather than just walking around the port area in Nassau, with all of the tourist traps.
Unfortunately our stop at Coco Cay had to be cancelled due to rough seas. Living in FL, I can do anything offered on the island at anytime so it didn't bother me, but some people were really looking forward to it. I ended up enjoying a nice afternoon poolside.
We did the 6pm dinner, which was perfect, my son would then go to the kids club and my husband and I would go to a show. My son loved the kids club, and we enjoyed the shows.
I would suggest that if you are considering the alcohol package, purchase it ahead of time, it is more expensive once you get on the ship. I was not overly impressed with the pizza in Sorrentos, and the one time I ate there, and the couple of times I ate at Windjammer, there was no ice to be found for my soft drinks. Jonny Rockets had good burgers, but there is a surcharge to eat there. The casino was really smoky, as most are, but I probably would have spent a little more time there if not for that.
Overall, I felt the Majesty of the Seas was perfect for my family to try out cruising. The staff were great, there were plenty of entertainment options, we had some great meals, and some okay ones. Best of all, we had an enjoyable family time and there was something for everone.
